Throughout the years Miley Cyrus has gotten a lot of attention from the media, especially when she underwent a very sudden and personal transformation from the girl next door into a seemingly brand new woman. Naturally, a lot of people were uncomfortable with this change and weren't afraid to express their judgements. Everyone loved Hannah Montana! Did she go insane? Was it drugs? Was it the pressure? Her breakup with Liam? I hate to break it to you all, but Miley did a thing called growing up. And behind the short hair, the new music and the constant tongue wagging, Miley found her voice. Now she's speaking loud and proud, and guess what? She's been doing just fine. Here are some reasons why:

1. She is always unapologetically herself.

Yes, a lot of people think "New Miley" is a bit much, and they're absolutely right. She's definitely a lot more colorful than most people, but that's what makes her so unique and lovable. She has never once tried to fit any sort of mold or conform to the status quo, which I have so much respect for.

2. She tells it like it is.

One of Miley's qualities that has always remained the most consistent is her ability and willingness to tell the truth. She isn't one of those celebrities who adopts ideas that she doesn't agree with-- she speaks her mind and doesn't try to please the masses. Some might call her outspoken, but I have so much respect for people who aren't afraid to fearlessly speak their mind.

3. She promotes self-love.

“Beauty is the enemy . We try to conquer not feeling beautiful all our lives. It's a battle that can't be won. There's no definition of beauty. The only way to achieve beauty is to feel it from inside without breaking down into individual physical attributes.” This quote was taken from her memoir, Miles to Go. Although she's done a lot of growing up since she wrote that book, she has maintained this outlook on beauty and the entertainment industry and continues to promote inner beauty and self-acceptance.

4. The Happy Hippie Foundation is changing lives and perspectives.

Last year https://www.dosomething.org/us nominated Miley Cyrus as one of the top honorees for being a celebrity that promotes social change. That's huge! The Happy Hippie Foundation (http://www.happyhippies.org/) is a nonprofit organization founded by Miley Cyrus to change lives and perspectives. "Our mission is to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations." You can help by donating/spreading the word/buying merchandise for this extremely important cause.

5. She doesn't rely on others to be happy.

Throughout the years Miley has done a ton of growing, and it is clear that she is living her life exactly how she wants to. Her music is thriving, she's being herself, and she uses her fame as a platform for social change. To me, that sounds like a child star who has grown into a bold young woman who is content with her life and choices. You go, Miley.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
