As a college freshman, joining Greek Life was one of the best decisions I could have made. There are so many benefits I have gained from joining a sorority, from meeting a ton of new people, to contributing to my community, but my personal favorite is having a Big Sister. There are hundreds of reasons to love having a big sister:
1. The Automatic Bond
As soon as you discover who your big sister is, there is an automatic bond that is formed, you automatically begin to love each other. At your reveal, your chest will fill with anticipation, and once you find your big, it just drops. You will smile with teeth from cheek to cheek, because you know you have just accepted another member into your family, and a new best friend into your life.
2. You Will ALWAYS Have Someone to Talk to
Whenever you are lost, confused, or in need of advice, your big sister will always be there at your side, whenever you need it. A big sister is a superhero, and always has all the answers you need - and in the case that they don't, they will go out of their way to find out for you. A big sister feels the need to look out for and care for their designated little sister because it is her responsibility.
3. You'll Never Have to Think Twice About Who to Ask Anywhere
Have you ever been in the awkward situation where you want to go out or hang with new friends, but don't want to go alone? Your big sister will ALWAYS be one of the first options to pop into your head, because you know with your big, you have never had a bad time.
4. You are in a New Environment
Greek life is a whole new world, and it can be overwhelming and scary at first. It can cause a whole new sort of anxiety, and give a new definition to the word "nervous."
With that being said, it is ultimately a million times easier going through the initiation and pledging process with someone you can fall back on and rely on. Your big sister will assume the responsibility and step up to this role. Big sisters are here to make your journey through college easier, and more fun as time goes on.
5. There Are Millions of Memories to be Made
Your big sister will quickly become one of your best friends. You will look up to her, spend most of your time with her, and want her to be around for a very long time.
College is where you are supposedly going to meet the friends you will have for the rest of your life. If that is true, then there is a world of new experiences to subject yourself to. You will be spending approximately four years with these new people, but if you play your cards right, they may even be around for the rest of your life.
