College is a four-year rollercoaster with a lot of ups and downs. Sometimes we feel like were free falling and other times we feel a rush of every emotion we've ever felt. There are times when it is hard putting what you are feeling into words. That's where quotes come in. Quotes are beautiful words that help us express what we are feeling when were not sure how to say it.

Here are five quotes that have helped me get through my college experience:

1. "Rome wasn't built in a day" -John Heywood

This quote has really meant a lot to me in the past few years. Pretty much it means that good things take time. Your GPA, your fitness, your jobs and internships, all take time. That doesn't mean you should sit back and wait for it. You need to go after what you want and don't give up.

2. "You do not move ahead by constantly looking in a rear view mirror. The past is a rudder to guide you, not an anchor to drag you. We must learn from the past but not live in the past." -Warren W. Wiersbe

The metaphor of a rearview mirror is really impactful to me. In college, you make a lot of mistakes and think about how you wish you could go back and change them. But if you are constantly thinking about the past, you will miss out on your future. It is okay to think about the past and to learn from your mistakes, but you have to move on and forgive yourself.

3. "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." –Robert Frost

My dad showed me quotes and poems from Robert Frost when I was younger. This quote really talks about the importance of being your own person and doing what is best for you. You will be happier about the outcome of your life if you feel like you ultimately made your own decisions. Don't follow the crowd, lead the crowd.

4. "You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take." –Wayne Gretzky

An important lesson I have learned is that the worst someone can say is no. Take a chance and you might be amazed by your outcome. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Put in the extra effort and it will pay off.

5. "I would rather die of passion than of boredom." –Vincent van Gogh

Find what you love and care about and go after it. Do whatever makes you feel like you are living life to the fullest. When you are passionate about something it will set your soul on fire. Embrace it and make it apart of you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
