Often in life we find ourselves going about our business, when all of a sudden our mood can change in the blink of an eye. Maybe the traffic is horrendous, maybe you forgot about an assignment due at midnight, maybe you went all the way to your favorite restaurant only to find that it was closed. In any of these cases, it's important to be aware of a few quick tips that might help you calm down when push comes to shove. With these tips maybe you can feel better the next time you find yourself in a fit of panic.

1. Beautiful day? Go outside and take a walk.

Sometimes the best way to calm down and immediately feel better is by becoming more in touch with nature or trying to appreciate the beauty in a clear day. You can go outside for a little bit and try not to concentrate on whatever it is that's bothering you. This totally free of charge tip can help you get your mind off what's bothering you so that when you do revisit the situation, you can do so with a clear head.

2. Indulge in one of your favorite snacks.

Often an easy way to make yourself feel immediately better is by arousing your taste buds. Chocolate lover? Get yourself a nice Hershey Kiss or mini chocolate bar, which is sure to automatically get your mind off things. Besides, life is too short to count calories.

3. Take a five or 10-minute break to listen to some music.

A lot of the time, music can be one of the best ways to lift up your mood and take your mind off a troubling subject. You can make playlists in your music library that have the theme of uplifting songs or songs that make you happier. Take a second to step away from your issues, and have some one-on-one time with yourself relaxing and just concentrating on the music.

4. Try a power nap.

While it's never an awesome option to completely give up, there's always the option to take a break. Naps are often a wonderful way to step away from something and come back to it with a more clear and relaxed mind. This is a good option to try because you get the chance to rest and not think about whatever it is that might be bothering you.

5. Yoga and meditation.

For centuries people have been using the ways of yoga and meditation to help them relax, escape from their problems, or learn how to approach life with a more clear head. What's better is that there are tons of free videos available on websites like YouTube that will walk you through a beginner's yoga or meditation session, so you don't have to do any real work in looking for the perfect guide.
