10 Ways To Destress

Stress can really put a strain on a person's life and a lot of people don't know how to deal with stress. These are just a few ways that help me lower my stress level and might help you.

1. Take a walk

Getting fresh air helps clear my head and exercising is beneficial but this way you're not actually going to the gym or running if that's not your thing.

2. Drink some tea

Tea is so helpful. Peppermint tea is my favorite to calm me down. I recommend finding a tea that is most beneficial for you. Research some teas and figure out what you think you would like the best.

3. Play with dogs

Animals are just natural stress-relievers to me and playing with my dog gets my mind off whatever was going on and makes me smile.

4. Take a nap

Naps are a blessing. I feel better every time I take a nap. I am more able to handle my homework or go to work feeling refreshed rather than snippy and angry.

5.Take a bath

Not everyone likes baths, but a bubble bath is a really good way to relax. Get some bubble bath that has a calming scent and I guarantee you'll be feeling much better when you get out.

6. Light some candles

Like tea, candles have a calming effect to them. There are specific candles to help with stress and I've found that it helps quite a lot.

7. Read a book

Reading really calms me down because I can escape to a make-believe world for a bit and forget about all my problems in the real world.

8. Listen to calming music

Music is great for anything. Sad? Listen to music. Happy? Listen to music. Stressed? Listen to music. I like to listen to either classical or jazz because there's little to no words so I can just focus on the rhythm of the music.

9. Write in your journal

Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts out of your head. Whether it be an electronic journal or handwritten, it's great to outline your thoughts and emotions rather than just keeping them bottled up in your head.

10. Take deep breaths

Focusing on your breathing makes you less likely to hyperventilate and automatically makes you calm down. I take a deep breath and count to 10 probably five times a day just to focus myself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
