When going out to eat in the lovely town of Saginaw, MI, I find myself going to the same places over, and over, and over again. Bdubs? Always. Applebees? Can't beat half-off apps. Qdoba? Yes.

However, these chain restaurants - no matter how extremely good their food is - can get old pretty quickly if you go to the same places time and time again. Plus, you can find these chain restaurants in most places around the United States. So, I'm here to unveil some hidden treasures of places to eat out in Saginaw.

1. Fralia's.

If you have not been here, you need to go. Now. Especially if you like the feel of a small café or your hugely into sandwiches and salads. They have over 20 options of super yummy sandwiches, or you can make your own. Basically, anybody's hunger can be pleased here. To add onto this, they have handful of both salad and soup options, too. They're not super pricey, and it's in the midst of Old Town Saginaw. A perfect little place to go for a lunch date.

2. Mac's.

If you want a good burger, please go here. I'm not one to usually eat burgers, but my family raved about how good their burgers were when we went - and they were right. I would have eaten, like 10 more had I not been so full. It's got a bit of a pub/bar feel to it, which I truthfully enjoy more than a typical restaurant feel. If the rest of their food is as good as their burgers, then we've got a winner here.

3. Timbers.

So, this one probably isn't as much of a "hidden treasure," however it is a Saginaw hometown classic place to eat that I had to mention. I could truthfully eat here every night and get something new each time, and every time the food would be amazing. Some of their food that is popularly raved about include their pizza, nachos (my personal favorite), and massive grilled cheese. No matter what you order, you won't be disappointed - plus, the staff is always super friendly and the whole place has a good vibe to it.

4. Rico's Authentic Mexican Take-Out.

So, it's not a sit-down restaurant, but if you want quality Mexican food, go here. Not only do they work quickly to get your order ready to go as soon as possible, the quality and taste of the food is amazing (and super affordable). It truly is authentic Mexican food that you get to enjoy in the comfort of your own home without cooking it yourself.

5. The Savoy Bar & Grill.

This place is known for amazing burgers, extremely friendly staff, and super good sausage gravy. A random combination, but it proves that the customer will not be disappointed no matter what. Located near downtown Saginaw, The Savoy is in a small historic diner that gives the customer a little bit of a “vintage” feel when dining there. It seems to be a local favorite, with almost 90% of reviews being extremely positive. Sounds like a place to visit soon!

BONUS: Fuzzy's.

Most who live in Saginaw probably know about Fuzzy’s. From creamy ice cream to delicious food, you can’t go wrong here. Another place with a small café vibe, you can order an awesome main course here – burgers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, soups, etc. – and then grab some ice cream on the way out, choosing between over 30 flavors of Mooney’s brand ice cream. Um, yes please.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
