After a week of outstanding performances from various countries around the world, we can all agree on how much time and effort Olympic athletes put in every day of the week. While we work full or part-time jobs, the athletes practice sports for a living.
After viewing their hard work and dedication on my television screen, I decided to write an article on the five life lessons we can learn from Olympic athletes.
1. Hard work pays off in the long run
Olympic athletes spend their lives working on their bodies, minds and sports. They spend years training for a two-to-three-week event that only occurs every four years. Without this hard work and dedication, the athletes might not be where they are today. There are several examples of athletes who reaped the benefits of working hard in their athletic careers.
2. Never give up
In life, there are ups and downs. For Olympic athletes, some years are better than others. For example, Aly Raisman has been the captain of the women's gymnastics team since 2012. She received gold medals in London, but this year she was able to receive the gold medal for the all-around gymnast competition. The point is she did not give up. Yes, she may be older than most professional gymnasts, but she refuses to let anyone stop her from a great performance.
3. Embrace your differences
Olympic athletes gather together every four years with various skill sets, backgrounds, and goals in mind for their events. The Olympics aims to make each year fit with the image of the host country. This event helps people to embrace their differences and step into another culture.
4. Every season brings a new challenge
Although an Olympic athlete may have several consecutive gold medals, each Olympic year is followed by a challenge. Some people may suffer from an injury and use the Olympics as a come back into their sport of choice. Therefore, seasons bring challenges. The audience is able to watch an athlete make a remarkable comeback or compete in one last event before retirement.
5. Sore losers only hurt themselves
Losing is an issue with various parts of life, but it is especially difficult to face in the Olympics. It is great to see athletes coming together and showing sportsmanship to their opponents. In life, many people will win, but many will lose.
Overall, these five statements align with the Olympics events.
