With all of the negativity that has filled up our world recently, it's important to remind ourselves of all of the good that can be still be found. That being said, here are 5 wonderful people and causes that will hopefully restore your faith in humanity.

1. A little girl broke language barriers just to include her new classmate at school- and made a friendship in the process of doing so.

As the sentence above states, a little girl named Amanda Moore went out of her way to make somebody new to her school feel comfortable and cared for. Knowing that he only speaks Spanish, she utilized Google Translate to write a note that Rafael would understand. And the best part about it? They ended up becoming great friends! Who knew that a little kindness could spark such a sincere friendship?

2. A soup shop in Melbourne allows people to pay a few extra dollars so that they can serve homeless people free food.

Nothing is sweeter than helping provide for those who simply can't provide for themselves- and that is exactly what The Soup Shop in Melbourne, Australia is doing! By paying an extra $3.50, customers can "pay it forward" and pay a homeless person's meal. Even though they don't see actual proof that a homeless person gets a free meal, customers trust that the shop is honest. Not only are they sweet, but they are willing to look for the good in people before the bad. Now, that's what I call having faith in humanity!

3. Neighbors surprise cancer patient with her last wish.

Michelle Fadel, a strong woman who has been battling breast cancer for the past six years, was recently told that she might not make it to Christmas, which is her favorite holiday. Upon finding out from her husband that information, her neighbors took it upon themselves to decorate her house with Christmas decorations and have even went Christmas caroling. It might not technically be Christmas yet, but that didn't stop people from working toward giving Michelle her very own Christmas miracle.

4. An adopted boy worked many hours just to buy his biological father a headstone, despite not knowing him.

Although Brandon Bakke never got the chance to get to know his biological father, he made sure that he did something to always leave an imprint on his father's life. Upon finding out more about what his father was like, and how his biological family couldn't afford a headstone for him, Brandon started working long hours just to make sure that his father would never be forgotten. A gravestone company found out about his hard work and decided to give him a headstone for free. However, that wasn't the end of Brandon's selflessness. Now, he mows lawns and cleans snow to earn money for other families that also can't afford to purchase a headstone for their loves ones. Brandon represents the kind of person everybody should aspire to be- generous, hard-working and compassionate.

5. A 12-year old boy voluntarily makes and sells hot chocolate mix, in order to make housing for veterans more accessible.

Being a twelve year old, it's very easy to get caught up in video games or TV shows. However, that is not the case for Zachary Rink. He created a hot chocolate stand just to earn money for veterans. After finding out that many veterans face homelessness, he decided that he wanted to make a change- and he certainly has. He has already impressively raised $250 and that is just the beginning.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
