Whenever there is a princess, there is a sidekick that goes along with her. However, the focus of the story is always the princess. Many of the funniest or most meaningful moments in the Disney princess movies involve the sidekick. Here's a list of five sidekicks that were vitally important to their princess' stories
1. Olaf
Not only is Olaf cute and childlike, but he is a very meaningful part of Frozen. He’s a snowman that likes warm hugs and believes that some people are worth melting for. He always looks on the bright side of things and is often laughing. His sacrificial love for Elsa and Anna is like that of a little brother. When he helped Anna to find Elsa, we saw how much he loved both of them.
2. Pascal
Rapunzel’s chameleon sidekick may not speak, but he can definitely communicate. He is protective of Rapunzel and even urged her to leave the castle. It took him a while to warm up to Flynn/Eugene, but he was looking out for Rapunzel’s safety. Plus, did anyone notice him trip Mother Gothel?
3. Mrs.Potts
Mrs. Potts, the teapot, was the head of the kitchen in her human life. She is Chip’s mother and displayed a motherly attitude towards Belle. This is very meaningful in the story since Belle lost her mother and was imprisoned in the castle, being kept away from her father. She also is a mother figure to the Beast and instructed him on how to approach and treat Belle. She also has one of the best lines in the whole film: "You don't lose hope, love. If you do, you lose everything."
4. Jaq and Gus
These two are a package deal and are Cinderella’s favorite mice. Gus is mainly remembered as the mouse in Cinderella with the stack of cheese, while Jaq is known for being the leader of all the mice. They are integral characters in the movie because of their role in stealing Cinderella’s room key and being transformed into horses to take her to the ball.
5. Flounder
Ariel’s sidekick is a fish (not a flounder like the name suggests, but rather a tropical fish) that seems to suffer from anxiety. He gave Ariel a statue of Eric and supported her fascination with going into the sunken ships. Although her gaining legs meant she had to be away from him, he always supported her, because he is her best friend.
