If you're like me and classes are already in session, chances are that road trips are a very, very distant reality. Or, maybe your university operates on a quarter system, and you’re still in “summer” mode, even though autumn is just around the corner. Either way, this may come in handy at the right time, and while you may not have time for a road trip, you can always turn on these jams to reminisce.
You’ll thank me later.
1. Sheryl Crow, “Soak Up The Sun”
Yep, we’re going into throwback mode. The early 00’s have some great songs that are road trip-worthy. “Soak Up The Sun” is one of them, especially if you’re driving to the beach.
Recommended if you like: palm trees, sea salt, and blonde hair.
2. Jake Bugg, “Simple As This”
I think it’s kind of a stretch to call Jake Bugg the next Bob Dylan (mostly because no one can really compare to Bob Dylan -- the myth, the man, the legend!), but if you’re an alternative, Britpop fan, this is for you.
Recommended if you like: urban graffiti, the musicalRent, or grey skies.
3. Ingrid Michaelson, “Everybody”
Like a road trip, Ingrid Michaelson will always lift up your spirit, with songs that are both catchy and relatable. Upbeat and happy, “Everybody” reminds us to never let go of fleeting moments, even when times are difficult.
Recommended if you like: the color yellow, denim overalls, and blackboards filled with chalk drawings.
4. Atlas Genius, “Trojans”
I’m readingThe Iliad currently, so the word “Trojans” has a completely different meaning for me right now. Regardless, Atlas Genius’ “Trojans” is dreamy, smoother than the roads you drive on.
Recommended if you like: flying scarves, string lights, starry skies.
