Things you need to make a road trip memorable

3 Road Trip Necessities

This past Labor Day weekend I had the opportunity to get off of campus and go on a road trip to Michigan to surprise a friend’s family. Now I had been on many road trips with my family, so I was expecting this trip to go a lot like what I was used to, but it definitely did not. This trip may have been one of the best, if not the best, trips I have ever taken. When we started this road trip we made sure we had certain things, and that is what made this trip to die for.

Here are the three necessities to make a road trip the best ever!

1. Music

Talking is nice, but music makes everything better. There is nothing better than jamming out with some of your best friends to some of our favorite songs. Now we did not do this but what I would recommend is to get together with the people you are going road tripping with and make a playlist for the car ride. Here are some of our favorite songs that we listen to on repeat:

1. Closer by the Chainsmokers

2. ALL THE DISNEY SONGS

3. Fergalicious by Fergie

4. Yeah by Usher

5. Don't Stop Believing by Journey

2. Food

Now we know without a doubt that on a road trip everyone stops to get food, but it is always a great idea to bring food with you. Some items I always like to bring with me are water, candy, and gum. When I go on trips with my mom she always brings snacks. We have this giant bag that my mom will fill with chips and cookies, and sometimes she will add soda to that mix. This helps limits our stops at rest stops for food. But when I went with my friends, we stopped quite a bit for the restroom, CAFFEINE, and for Chick Fil a.

3. Something to do

If you are not the one who is driving the car, sometimes a road trip can be a little bit boring. I like to bring a book with me to read, and occasionally I will bring my laptop with me to finish an article or work on homework. My brother likes to bring his iPod to play games on. My grandma likes to bring her crocheting, and a book. This past road trip I brought my laptop and my friend Hannah brought a coloring book. Having something to do in the car when everything gets quiet will keep you occupied until everything gets going again.

In the end, whether you had a great road trip or not, you have made it to the place you were on your way to. Now that you are there it is time for you and your friends, family, or group to start having fun and to start making memories. The past road trip I was on, the car ride was just the beginning to the wonderful lifelong memories we would make while together on the adventure.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
