4 Simple Ways To Give Back To The Community
wemakebartwork.com

In light of all the bad news that has been filling all of your social media, I’d like to share some positivity that we can all use to enrich our communities. Here are five simple ways that you can make a difference within your neighborhood. Anyone can make a difference. It only takes a drop in the ocean to make a wave. Be that drop, be that change.

1. Donate.

Donating is a way to physically give to those in need. When thinking of donating many are quick to think of what they can spare from their wallets but donating is much more than just money. You can donate food to a local food pantry that gives to struggling families. By giving a bag of non-perishable food to a pantry, you are giving a family a meal they would not have had without your help.

You can also donate clothes that no longer fit you to organizations that clothe the homeless. We take a winter coat and hat for granted during the cold months but those in need would be forever grateful. Another form of donation that can help your community is a blood drive. Donated blood is responsible for saving the lives of many on a daily bases. No donation goes unappreciated!

2. Volunteer.

If you can’t physically give back then you can give back your time. Volunteering to help local organizations is a rewarding way to help others. Depending on your age and capability there are countless opportunities for you to volunteer in your community. You can go to animal shelters by your home and aid in caring for the pets that long for a family, travel to nursing home to visit that sick and elder. Soup kitchens are always looking for volunteers to help cook and feed the homeless. The options are truly endless. If you are older and in good health you could even volunteer at your neighbor fire department.

3. Clean Up And Recycle.

Set up a neighborhood cleanup not only will it make your home town look great, it will also help preserve the environment! It is a win, win! Picking up litter and then recycling makes such a positive impact on your community. Clean up clubs can be a fun way to bring a strong sense of unity to the place you call home. It’s the perfect opportunity to make friends and a difference at the same time! Just think of how much more beautiful your community can be with your help!

4. Share You Skills.

Everyone is good at something so why not share your skills with someone who needs it. This is an easy way to lend a hand to those in need. If you are a good student you can help others who struggle in a certain subject. Tutoring is great for all ages and helps both parties get better at learning material. If studies are not your strong suit don’t stress maybe you are good at house maintenance. If you have an older neighbor you can help with yard work and not just in the summer. You could help mow their lawn and shovel their drive way in the snow. Even if you are reading this and still thinking I don’t have a skill, I promise you do! Even holding the door open for someone is a skill that can make a change and spread kindness.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
