What is four letters and one of the hardest things in life? That would be love. Growing up we see love in Disney movies like "Cinderella" and, my newest favorite, "Frozen." They fall in love and live happily ever after. Seems so great right? You find your Prince Charming and you run off to a castle. Growing up the last few years I have come to realize that love isn’t always as easy as running away with Prince Charming. Love is hard; everyday you have to wake up and choose it. There will be good days, and then there will be days that may not be so peachy. It is complicated, but one of the most rewarding feelings. So ladies, my advice to you is to hold on to that person and love them like there is no tomorrow. It will be worth it.
In my life I have loved very few people. My family first, and then those guys I was lucky enough to call mine. Through the ups and the downs of those relationships, I’ve come to realize some important things about love.
- He has to be your best friend. You know when you are little and you find your best friend on the playground, and you decide you’re going to tell them everything? Yeah, make sure he is that to you. You should be able to tell each other anything and everything from you having had Cheerio’s for breakfast, to figuring out how to deal with a summer apart.
- Reciprocation is non-negotiable. We all the know the famous phrase of “It takes two to tango." This saying could not be more true. Both parties involved should be able to give each other the world.
- Honesty. Lets face it, you have to be honest or else it will all crumble. Be honest about your feelings and your past. If you both aren’t on the same page, one of you is going to end up hurt. I think this goes back to being best friends, just spill your beans and it will all be OK!
- Guard your heart. After many heartbreaks this seems like a new must for my list of things about love. I am the type of girl that gives my heart and love away very easily, so my advice is don’t be so willing to give it away until you know it is going somewhere.
- Be yourself. Don't change who you are and what you want in life for another person. If you have goals and passions keep those and don't be willing to push them under the rug.
Love is tough but worth it in the end. Find the person who can make you the happiest and love each other big.
