27 Thoughts Everyone Has While Running

For anyone who runs, you know that there is generally a love/hate relationship with the sport. Whether you train for half marathons, are just starting out, or simply run as a supplement to your other workouts; you know that the sport requires a fair bit of dedication, paired with lots of time alone on the road, track or treadmill.

Although I've been running for years, it's consistently been an on-off type of occurrence. Getting back into it (or just starting out) is never easy. Here are some of the things that might go through your mind as you pound the pavement.

1. "This is good, I'm being healthy, I'm going to have a great run. New year, new me!"

2. "It's such a beautiful day out. Why don't I do this more often?"

3. "Maybe I should've peed before leaving."

4. "I'm going to be in such great shape. I'll run every day."

5. "Oh man I've been running forever" *looks at watch, it's been 5 minutes*

6. "Wait...I still have four miles left."

7. "Run to that sign and then you can walk...just kidding, you can walk now."

8. "Oh look, someone I know! Time to sprint and pretend I actually know what I'm doing."

9. "My legs feel like lead balloons now."

10. "I swear to god this hill wasn't here when I drove on this road yesterday."

11. "Definitely should've peed."

12. "Spending two hours making a running playlist was not a very good use of my time, considering all I can think about right now is how much everything hurts."

13. "If that girl I saw at the gym yesterday can lift 200 lbs, then I can finish this run."

14. "LITERALLY WHERE DID THIS HILL COME FROM?"

15. "I hate this but I love food I hate this but I love food I hate this."

16. "Last time I listened to this song, I was taking shots of tequila."

17. "NO, I am being healthy now."

18. "How do people do this on a daily basis and enjoy it?"

19. "Is that guy smiling on his run? How is he not in searing pain?"

20. "Oh boy, one mile left. I'm not going to make it."

21. "Why does leg chafing exist?"

22. "Everything. Hurts."

23. "This actually isn't terrible. I feel so free."

24. "A shower is going to feel quite nice after this."

25. "Wait, no. Food. Think of all the food I'm going eat when I'm done."

26. "I can see the light. The end is near."

27. "That was brutal; I am never doing this again!"

(Although time after time, you'll be back out running again before you know it.)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
