There are certain things that everyone with a large extended family knows and accepts. My family is very large with my dad having eight siblings, and each of them has at least two children, each you can imagine the family gatherings. Not to mention we are extremely Italian and that adds to the craziness of it all.
Here are just a few of the many things that people with large extended families can relate to.
1. Family gatherings are never small.
2. Whenever food is present you are expected to eat and if you don't you will be questioned as to why you aren't eating.
So you tend to eat more just so no one will question you.
3. Being in situations with a lot of people doesn't phase you anymore because it is exactly how every family gathering is.
4. You've accepted that at said family gatherings you may not be able to talk to each family member individually.
Which deep down you are okay with because some of them are just crazy!
5. Since there are so many of you, Christmas is now held as a sort of office type secret santa to spare everyones wallets.
You never know who you are going to get but thats the most exciting part about it all.
6. Taking a family photo becomes a process.
It's basically as crazy as when the Kardashians get together to take their Christmas card photo.
7. Don't dream of being alone at a family function
You won't even be alone in the bathroom...
8. Bringing a significant other to a family event is a milestone in your relationship.
Basically if someone with a large family brings you to a family event that means shit is getting serious.
9. You learn to eat fast so that you get more food before it is all gone.
However in my large Italian family we never run out of food.
10. When major holidays come around it becomes a battle of who's house will everyone congregate at.
Often times the children become the mediators and have to reign the adults in.
11. Once the place is decided it becomes a process of who brings what.
12. If you are in college or just started you will be asked over a million times how its going and what you are doing.
13. As you grew up you made bets about who would be the first to move out of state, first to get married, and who would be the first to have kids.
14. At family gatherings you tend to make sure someone saves your seat for you because there is never enough.
15. You tend to spend hours debating everyones ages and the order each of you were born.
You inevitably give up because there are just too many of you and ain't nobody got time for that.
16. Saying your goodbyes at the end of a get together usually takes about an hour.
If you're lucky.
17. You've probably heard the same stories a million times yet each one never gets old.
18. Deep down you know that within your extended family your family is the one that slays everyone.
19. Eventually once people begin to move away and spread across the country you begin to be able to travel more because you finally have places to stay.
20. Fights are inevitable and feuds will always be apparent. Whether between the adults or the cousins someone it probably acting petty.
21. But, at the end of the day you're family and ultimately best friends so none of that really matters.
