During Christmas I was all by myself in the middle of Nowhere-Indiana, so I needed to entertain myself. What is better than a Netflix week-long binge? Perfect. I figured that I might as well watch “Friends” because I hear about how much people love it and, of course, Jenn is GORG. So I finished all ten seasons in one week and I learned a thing or two from the best six friends I’ll ever know.
1. Love is Forever
Okay, who better to use as an example than the couple themselves, Rachel and Ross. They hadn’t seen each other in years and Rachel runs into Central Perk with her wedding dress on and all the feels for Ross come rushing back. Of course, it takes Rach a while to realize all she’s ever wanted in a man was right in front of her. And also of course, the writers had to ruin sitcom’s favorite couple by saying they were “on a break” (NO THEY WERE NOT). But, then they made us all feel-good happy again by having them end up with each other (plus little Emma) and make us happy cry. So from this, I learned that once you love someone it will never go away, no matter how much time has elapsed or if a copy-girl gets in the way. GO LOVE!
2. Falling in Love with your Best Friend is Beautiful
Continuing with the theme of love, we go to Monica and Chandler. These two were meant for each other from the beginning and made me ugly cry at least once a season from their engagement episode on. Their love story is everything any girl would want, falling in a secret love (even in a foreign place), getting engaged in the cutest way, having the perfect wedding, and, finally, having a family and house to themselves (*sigh* dream come true). But Mon and Chandler taught me that you can love your best friend and fall for them more than anyone else (take that Richard).
3. Girls before Guys
Phoebe, Monica, and Rachel make up the friend group I have always wanted. A little weird, a little fun, a little smart, and a whole lotta hot. They show us that no matter what your girls always have your back. Through the break-ups, the holidays, and those days that you’re just down, there is always a seat at Monica’s kitchen table for one.
4. Bro-mances
Need I say more? Joey, Chandler, and Ross are the guy group I would think every guy would want. The friend that always has the girls, the one with all the jokes, and the one with all the divorces (AKA drama). These guys will fight, but makeup and go to a Knicks game. If there is ANYTHING I learned from this, it’s that guy really do come before girls (Joey didn’t want to make Ross uncomfortable with Rachel *AW* how sweet).
5. Friends are Forever
“I’ll be there for you because you’re there for me, too.” TRUE. This group of different personalities came together to make up a group of people who will always have each other’s back. You can’t buy a friendship, you never leave true friends behind, and you look out for those who love you. So many things can be learned from this group even if the show was scripted for the most part, but they brought to reality what it means to be a friend at a time when not everyone is going to have their life together (yay being an adult).
