“History will remember what we do in this moment,” Hillary Clinton said.

This is what Hillary Clinton said on June 14 in her speech speaking out on Trump and his “disrespectful” talk in the wake of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub massacre, and she is right.

Not many US citizens can deny the significance that this election holds. No matter who a person may support, most people think either Clinton or Trump will ruin this nation as president, and some people believe both will, making this year’s election choice the shiniest of two turds. A lot hangs in the balance with this election, so I have no doubt that this will be an election kids 20 years from now will read up on in their history books.

The United States seems to be in a very dire time with a lot of issues, both internal and external, putting a lot of pressure on the people we elect into power. We have ISIS-ISIL in the Middle East, immigration issues, foreign relations and much more to deal with while also battling shootings and gun control, minimum wage issues, our national economic debt, and general unrest and conflict between the American people themselves. Depending on who gets elected President, the United States will head down two very different paths.

Under Trump’s administration, he promises to build a wall between the United States and Mexico and have Mexico pay for it, get rid of The Affordable Care Act and reform healthcare once more, level the playing field with US-China trade, reform the Veterans Administration, reform tax to help the middle class, ensure Second Amendment rights do not get infringed and reform immigration so that we don’t have any more illegal immigration and less terrorists coming into the country. All of this, and more, Trump promises he will do to make America great again.

Hillary Clinton has a list of issues she promises her administration will focus on if she becomes president. This list includes addiction and substance abuse, campaign finance reform, campus sexual assaults, climate change, criminal justice reform, gun violence prevention, health care, immigration reform, labor rights, LGBT rights and equality, college affordability, national security, racial justice, raising incomes, Social Security reform, women’s rights and more.

However, despite the large quantities of supporters following both candidates, there is an equal amount of doubt amongst voters for how well they can both do with keeping good on these promises. Donald Trump is constantly criticized for his racist comments and politics, him condoning violence during his rallies, and consistently being inconsistent with what he stands for. John Oliver captured most problems people have with Trump perfectly in his Late Night show, “Last Week Tonight,” in its special on Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton, too, is plagued with nasty comments about her. Trump himself started the “Crooked Hillary” nickname, and many of those who dislike the Democratic front runner have decided it’s fitting. Since the beginning of her campaign, many have seen her as an untrustworthy person. The email scandal of hers and the Benghazi situation left many people to believe that her word isn’t something the American people can rely on. All of these factors make these two very different paths look like a hundred.

So, yes, Hillary Clinton is 100 percent right about how history will remember this election. A few friends and I do see pretty dark times ahead of America with either candidate winning, and it’s not even due to their individual policies. This election is dividing the nation up. I’ve seen more violence and hate speech over social media and during rallies than I ever thought was possible over an election process. Yes, people get very involved and angry over politics, and it has always been like that, but this election seems to truly be dividing people into certain categories and factions—factions that have several times already lashed out at one another. It seemed in years prior that our nation was finally starting to become a little more united and accepting of one another, especially with the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage, but this election feels like it’s bringing us right back to the roots.

I feel Trump’s campaign is building off of America’s growing want for the return of isolationism. Though Trump may not say he is supporting isolationism, his promises are pushing for an America that closes off more from other nations. A 2013 survey showed that 52 percent of US citizens thought that the U.S. should, “mind its own business internationally,” and I can only imagine that has spiked even higher in the wake of ISIS-ISIL’s rising influence and all of the US’s involvement in Syria. However, the world cannot afford our nation to become isolationists once more. With the high tension in many areas across the globe, without US involvement, many nations will fall into chaos and their governments will be toppled. Korea hasn’t fallen into complete chaos due to the support the United States gives to keeping the peace. Most airstrikes delivered to Syria and Iraq are ordered by the United States Central Command. With the states pulling back and closing itself off from Mexico or Middle-Eastern nations and with the US cutting trade relations with China until they give back as much as we give unto them, these actions will lead to less US involvement, and that may very well result in another world war.

For Hillary’s possible presidency, it is just hard to know what to expect from it. Many presidents in the past have not been able to follow through on promises or turned the other way, but at least the people trusted them. The majority of people against Hillary do not trust a word she says, and how will she be able to acquire the support of the masses, or even Congress, if people see her as a liar and a crook? When someone goes into office for the first time, there is a lot of trust from the people in that person to help make the nation grow, but how far can someone take the nation if that trust is not present? Even with all the support she receives, I still hear people in the supermarket or on videos online talking about how they can’t believe anything she says.

Some presidencies have gone forgotten with not much historical significance; however, there is no way this one is going to be forgotten. I often wondered what it would be like to be alive during FDR, Nixon or Lincoln’s presidency because of the significance their terms in office had on history. Looks like I won’t have to wonder for this one because the next four years in the United States are definitely going to be ones for the history books.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
