The NFC and AFC championships will take place next weekend. The Arizona Cardinals defeated the Green Bay Packers and the Carolina Panthers defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC. These two teams faced off in last year's playoffs with Carolina coming out on top 27-16. On the other side, the New England Patriots will face the Denver Broncos in a rematch of the 2013 AFC Championship. Tom Brady will seek revenge but also look to defend their Super Bowl title from last season. These games have some history and will likely play out to the viewing audience's pleasure with some drama. Let’s see what each team has going for them.
Carolina Panthers:
The Panthers finished the season 15-1, which was the best record in the league. They have a Pro Bowl quarterback and likely MVP of the league in Cam Newton and a lock down defense. They are undefeated at home, which would make it hard for the Arizona Cardinals to travel across the country to beat them.
Arizona Cardinals:
The Cardinals have had a record season from their starting quarterback Carson Palmer. He has matched his own season records while hanging with the likes of Tom Brady and Cam Newton. Their main attribute is their defense. It is hard to score on their front seven and lock down secondary. The Cardinals will put up a fight on the road.
New England Patriots:
Tom Brady and the Patriots are almost unstoppable in the playoffs. Bill Belichick knows how to win when it matters most due to his history of making it on the big stage. The Patriots, however, have been riddled with injuries all season long. If Brady can figure out a way to score with his limited threats, the Patriots might be looking at back-to-back Super Bowl appearances.
Denver Broncos:
After being benched earlier in the season, Peyton Manning is back and looking to navigate his team to the Super Bowl. The reason the Broncos have remained so tough throughout their QB issues is the fact that their defense constantly keeps them in the game. Look for the Broncos to force a lot of turnovers in the championship game.
My Prediction:
I predicted a month ago that the Patriots would beat the Panthers in the Super Bowl. I stand by my prediction of the teams that will make it to the big game, but I think the Carolina Panthers will outlast New England when it matters most.
