President-Elect Trump's victory was a shock to many voters. Voters were either in tears of happiness or tears of sorrow and anger. This resulted in multiple protests occurring throughout our nation as we woke in the realization of a Trump presidency.
To all of those who were in anger of Trump's victory, the sun rose the next morning right? For me, although I was shocked about the results, I woke up to a beautiful sunrise, a cup of coffee, and a morning exam. The world didn't end. The world won't end even at the end of Trump's first term as President. You all have a lot to fight for, women's rights, equality for all Americans, etc.
Just because Trump won doesn't mean you should go out on the streets and burn the American flag. You have no idea how many lives were lost so that flag could continue to fly and it seems as if a lot of Americans have lost touch with what the American flag stands for.
As Americans, we should fight for the ideals for what this country and that flag stands for, not burn it down. What makes America unique is the peaceful transition of power. Yet, this transition doesn't seem at all peaceful. With protests occurring throughout the nation shortly after the results were released, the results won't change.
That is now in the past. If you want to create change, be the voice that leads to a better future and instead of advocating for change for the past that can't be undone. A nation won't move forward if we continue to look back and change what is unchangeable.
To those who celebrated Trumps victory, from an American to another, I congratulate you all and look forward to making change here in the U.S. For all of those who voted for Trump and even Clinton, I ask only but one thing. That is to be open to the ideas that other fellow Americans who had that lead them to vote for the other candidate. In reality, we all want what is best for this nation.
Derogative name calling or protests against election results will not bring about change. Listening to each other, finding a middle ground, and creating solutions that address the problems of the future and working with our nation's leaders will bring change. Constantly being divided will not bring change.
