Last week, Cleveland suffered a huge loss in the sports world. Although we lost the World Series, the Cleveland Indians gave a great season and gave us one of the best Game 7's we could ever hope for. Are we sad that we lost? Of course, this city lives and breathes for our sports teams. But, that's not what we need to realize.
We need to be thankful that we got to even experience the World Series. I might have not gotten to go to a game physically, it was a memory I will never forget. I got to watch the final game with my brother and mom and I couldn't have asked for more. To this city, its more than a game to us. It's the atmosphere, the fans, the heart and soul.
Let's be real, lately all social media has been blowing up (good and bad) about the games. Looking through twitter, this tweet from Faydra Drennan really stood out to me about why it was more than just a game to us:
"I must admit I didn't grow up with the Indians being a big part of my life and my parents never took me to games. I've discovered my love for them in the last few years when I would come home from work and my dad would be watching the games. I wanted to spend more time with him, so I'd sit down and watch with him. I fell hard for the Indians. Then as the following sports seasons started, I started watching them. That's why this World Series hit so hard. It was my first real Cleveland heartbreak experience. My love for Cleveland sports started with a father-daughter bond though the Indians. It's more than a game."
For years, people would always talk down on Cleveland and our sports, they still do. Yet this year, the Cavs won the national championship for the NBA, The Lake Erie Monsters won the Calder Cup, and Stipe Miocic became the UFC champion. We have always been the underdog, now people are finally realizing what we are made of. It really is Cleveland against the world.
The odds were against the Indians throughout this whole post season. We lost 3 of our starting players, but we still won the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox. Then, we thought we would never beat the Toronto Blue Jays, but then again the Indians came out on top! When it came time for the World Series, all the odds in the world were against us.
The Chicago Cubs have been one of the greatest teams in the league this whole season and we still pushed them through 7 games instead of a quick sweep. That is something to be proud of. Our boys gave their all and I am so extremely proud of them for such a great season.
Thank you for everything! Next year will be even better. We aren't referred to as Believeland for nothing. We are so grateful for all we have accomplished and I am so proud to be from Cleveland and to be a Cleveland sports fan.
