The 2014 football season has, unfortunately, come to a close. It is now time to reflect on some of the breakout stars who made a real impact on the field.
Some rookies stood out more than others. For many little boys, their dream is being in the NFL. It is incredible to see players in their first season do so well. The athleticism these players show is unbelievable. Below, is a list of some of the rookies that I think had a phenomenal season.
Odell Beckham Jr. undoubtedly had one of the best rookie seasons for a wide receiver in 2014. His one-handed catch turned into a meme that went completely viral. The New York Giants drafted the rookie from LSU in the first round with the 12th pick. The Giants ended up getting a great player who provided many touchdowns for the team.
Teddy Bridgewater is the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. He was drafted in the first round. Bridgewater came from Louisville and lived up to all his hype. The Vikings did not have a successful season, but Bridgewater looks promising for the future of the team. He passed for 2,919 yards and had 14 touchdowns.
Tre Mason was a running back out of Auburn. The St. Louis Rams selected him in the third round with the 75th overall pick. Mason had 765 yards with four touchdowns, and he started nine games and appeared in 12.
Sammy Watkins was a high profile draftee entering the 2014 draft. The Buffalo Bills selected him in the first round with the fourth overall pick. The wide receiver played for Clemson. Watkins had six receiving touchdowns with 65 receptions, and 982 receiving yards in his rookie season.
Bishop Sankey was selected in the second round with the 54th pick. Sankey played running back for the University of Washington. With the Tennessee Titans, Sankey had 569 rushing yards this season.
Eric Ebron is a rookie tight end for the Detroit Lions. He was one of the most highly sought-out tight ends in the 2014 draft. He was selected in the first round of the 2014 draft with the tenth overall pick. He recorded 25 receptions this season and had 248 receiving yards.
All of these rookies had a great first season. They are sure to have successful futures in the NFL. I cannot wait for wait for the 2015 season to begin.
