Before Halloween costumes were an excuse to dress sexy, or a competition of creativity, they were scary as heck. Maybe its the costumes themselves. Maybe its the eery sepia quality of the photos. Or maybe its both, but these vintage Halloween costumes prove why Halloween is known as the scariest night of the year:

Apparently a skeleton costume has always been a popular choice. But today's skeleton suites have nothing on these ones of the past.
