1. Wow, I'm no longer a teenager.
2. I am now a "real" adult. How scary is that?
3. What does being an adult even mean? Does it mean that I have my life together?
4. I certainly do not meet that criteria.
5. I am wearing clean clothes at the moment. Does that count as "having my life together?"
6. I am ten years away from being 30.
7. If I am 20 now, why do I still feel like I should answer 17 to the question, "How old are you?"
8. I asked for adult things for Christmas (a toaster and an electric mixer) and I have used them both. There's an adult thing.
9. If I can cook a decent meal for myself, does that make me an adult?
10. At this point, I should know how to make a budget. Maybe I'll learn that soon.
11. Now that I'm 20, I should stop shopping so much.
12. I shouldn't have to use GPS to get everywhere.
13. How does paying rent in an apartment work? I should probably know that too.
14. I do know how to change a tire. There's an adult skill.
15. I need to know what I want to do with my life.
16. Why can I still not have a normal conversation with a cute boy?
17. Is it even possible to have my life together?
18. I'm a real piece of work.
19. I've got a lot of growing and learning to do.
20. There's nothing wrong with that and I'm doing just fine.
After making this list and running through thoughts and concerns about this new age milestone of 20, I realized a few things. The first is that no one really has their life together. Life happens to everyone. The second thing is that being an "adult" is all about how you deal with the craziness and unexpectedness of life. It doesn't mean that you deal with everything on your own, but rather take responsibility and try to sort it out as best you can even if that requires help. The third and final thing is that it's fine to not know everything there is to know about adult life and being independent. I'm pretty new to it, and with the help of others and Jesus, I'm learning and growing everyday.
