Dear Roommate,

First of all, no letter will be enough to thank you. From being a mom away from home, a support system, a study buddy, and a friend all rolled into one, you have made my college experience infinitely better. When 20 things don't even begin to cover it, but here are some of the things I'm especially grateful for:

1. For encouraging me to take one more...

...Jell-O shot, watch one more episode of reality TV or eat one more piece of chocolate...even when I have work to do.

You are my best and worst influence.

2. For listening to me rant when I am angry.

And thank you for not getting mad when I rant about the same thing every single day.

3. For giving me your honest opinion on every outfit and for loaning me clothes when I am tired of all of mine.

4. Thank you for hating the person that I hate...

just as much as I do (or more).

5. Thank you for taking care of me when I am sick.

Whether it's offering me medicine or Ginger Ale or just listening to me complain, I appreciate you.

6. For proofreading my papers and for helping me study for exams.

7. Thank you for always being there to cheer me up when I'm down.

And being the first to congratulate me when I've done well.

8. For remembering the little things.

Whether it's a day that I have a big exam or something that I said I wanted for my birthday.

You never fail at making me feel special.

9. Thank you for taking out the trash when I forget.

Or the recycling... or cleaning the sink... or wiping down the counters...

10. Thank you for always letting me snuggle in your bed.

The days that we go from laying in my bed to laying in yours are some of the best (and laziest) days.

11. Thank you for the endless grocery store, Target, and late-night fast food runs.

I never knew shopping for pasta and shampoo could be fun until we started going together.

12. For saving me from a fine when I forgot my key... more than one time.

13. Thank you for tolerating me when I'm cranky.

(And for accepting when I need my space and loving me anyway).

14. And thank you for tolerating me when I'm too hyper for my own good.

Even when it's past midnight and you have to be up before 8 a.m.

15. Thank you for tagging me in funny videos and texting me funny pictures.

16. Thank you for always being down for a Chipotle date.

17. Thank you for being my voice of reason.

I appreciate all the reality checks and for being my mom away from home.

18. Thank you for starting a Pinterest workout with me when I said I was out of shape

(And thank you for not shaming me for not sticking to it.)

Let's be honest: Working out is always more fun with a friend, but skipping a workout to get food is infinitely better.

19. Thank you for making even the most ordinary of nights something fun.

We could just be laying on the couch, flipping through Vine, and having a great time.

20. Finally... thank you for being my partner in crime and one of my best friends.

I can't imagine college without you.

Love,

A Thankful Roommate

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
