20 Songs To Get You Through Finals Week
Interview with the Geek

Finals week is approaching faster than I want to admit. For some students, that means test after test after test. For others, it means essay after essay after essay. For the unfortunate, it means both. No matter how great of a student you are, finals week is stressful. Of course it's important to prepare ahead of time by studying or drafting essays, but it's also important to keep some type of mental stability. Taking a break every now and then is crucial during this time to prevent complete insanity. So put the books down and listen to some music to match whatever mood this horrific week has put you in.

If you feel like crying, listen to...

1. "Hello" by Adele

Why cry over your million assignments when you could cry to Adele's soothing voice?

2. "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley

This song is gorgeous, but if you want the Shrek version, check out John Cale's rendition.

3. "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M.

This is so true it hurts.

4. "Amnesia" by 5 Seconds of Summer

That feel when you forget everything even though you studied for days on end. (This isn't the same, but still.)

5. "Stone Cold" by Demi Lovato

And the tears keep falling.

If you feel like screaming or belting out some lyrics, listen to...

6. "Stressed Out" by twenty one pilots

This is basically an anthem for finals week.

7. "Drag Me Down" by One Direction

Guilty pleasure song with some great belts at the end? Yes please.

8. "Alive" by Sia

You can't help but belt out Sia's lyrics whenever you hear them.

9. "Love Yourself" by Austin Jones

This is an interesting cover on one of Justin Bieber's most popular songs. Just wait until the second chorus.

10. "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance

Finals scare me the way teenagers scare this band.

If you feel like dancing and shaking the stress away, listen to...

11. "Hair" by Little Mix

Use the music video as inspiration and have a fun night with your friends!

12. "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift

This is pretty self-explanatory.

13. "Be Alright" by Ariana Grande

It'll be alright.

14. "Birthday" by Selena Gomez

Party like it's your birthday.

15. Party in the U.S.A." by Miley Cyrus

If there's one thing Miley Cyrus can teach us, it's how to party.

If you feel like you've already lost your mind and there's no returning, listen to...

16. "I'm a Mess" by Ed Sheeran

Me too, Ed, me too.

17. "Mad World" by Gary Jules

Because it is a very, very mad world.

18. "Welcome to My Life" by Simple Plan

Teen angst music is the best music.

19. "Figure It Out" by Royal Blood

"Still trying to figure it out."

20. "Therapy" by All Time Low

We might all need some after finals.

Good luck and happy studying!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
