20 New Year's Resolutions To Stick To

New Year, New Me; not a new concept. Year after year we hear people say that the next year is the year that they will not only survive, but they will thrive. Some people throw themselves into a gym and stop going as often after a week, while others throw themselves into their work too quick and burn themselves out. I am absolutely not saying that you should completely throw out the idea of a few New Year's resolutions, I am saying to make ones that you can stick to for that year and the years to follow. Don't make them too dramatic; those can be harder to stick to for the long run. Don't underestimate yourself either, however. Set attainable and realistic goals this year to ensure that this year, you can be a newer and better you. Here are 30 suggestions I have seen and have heard of to help make your resolutions last longer than in previous years.

1. Drink more water.

2. Ditch the multiple soda's a day and try to replace some with tea.

3. Pause your favorite show and go adventure where you live. You may be surprised by the beauty of your town and the surrounding towns.

4. Try your absolute hardest to get more sleep at night.

5. Hit the gym more often than before.

6. Make time each day for activities you love.

7. Try new things; you may surprise yourself.

8. Spend less time staring at your screen and actually experience your life.

9. Eat better (treat yourself; everything in moderation)

10. Find the positive side of not so hot situations.

11. Stop saying "later" and say "now".

12. Go out and live the live you get jealous of others for having.

13. Do the thing you wanted to but were too afraid to.

14. Be more true to yourself.

15. Attempt to relieve stress in any way possible.

16. Be more present for the people who need you.

17. Realize that you are better then you let yourself admit.

18. Give your care time to those who really need it.

19. Do at least one thing a day that is out of your comfort zone, even if it is ordering a meal that you wouldn't usually order.

20. At the beginning and end of every day, be thankful for the life you have.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
