My birthday is coming up in just a few short months, and I just wanted to express all of the little things that there are to love about being 19 before I turn the big 2-0. 19 is the official last "teenage" year, so live it up to the fullest!
1. Being adult.
You've already passed age 18 which means technically you are a legal adult.
2. But not adult enough.
Adulting just isn't in the cards for you right now. You have no bills to worry about, you probably have no family of your own, and you don't have to get up and do anything if you don't want to.
3. It's still okay to ask your parents for money.
Let's be honest, your parents still support you for the most part. At 19 years old and being a broke college student, you still ask them for money, and that's OK.
4. You're allowed to be a little selfish.
At this point in life, you've got to do what is best for you. You're allowed to put your own needs above anybody else.
5. But you know when not to be.
Being 19, you know when you should help other people. You know when someone needs you, and you're willing to give up some things for others.
6. Choosing happiness above all else.
Your happiness is one of the most important things in your life right now, and you aren't afraid to choose it over everything else.
7. High school is really over.
When you come home from college, you really only have to visit the people you want to see. You can put the past behind you and ignore everything bad from high school.
8. You mature and find yourself.
This year brings a lot of new changes in your life and you have the ability to find yourself and what you are passionate about.
9. Freedom.
You most likely don't live under your parents' roof during the whole year. This gives you the freedom to do whatever you want to do when you want.
10. Responsibilities.
You are responsible for yourself and keeping yourself healthy and happy.
11. You can legally make your own decisions.
You can legally make whatever decisions you want to without your parents' consent. You can buy a house or a car if you want to.
12. You can hang out with your friends whenever you please.
This is especially true if you are in college. Then most of your friends are close by.
13. The age of 21 is closer than the age of 16.
You have had your license and maybe a car for three years now, and you are 2 years away from the drinking age. When you get there though, don't drink and drive!
14. Another year wiser.
You will go through a lot during this year of life and you will learn a lot from your experiences.
15. School is no longer required, but you can still go.
You can skip class if you want, but most people actually go. It's truly up to you.
16. You have to start thinking of your future.
You aren't that far away from graduating college and starting your career or a family. You need to start thinking about your wants and needs in the future.
17. There's still room for mistakes.
You are not expected to be perfect, and you can still learn from the many mistakes you are going to make.
18. Trying new things.
Your college years are the prime time to try new things. I know I have been! I tried sushi for the first time this year.
19. Booking and going on your own vacations.
At the ripe age of 19, you can book your own hotel room and go on a vacation without your parents. Spring break, anyone?
19 may be one of the forgotten years that nobody talks about, but since it is the last year of being a teenager, it is quite possibly one of the best years. Enjoy every bit of it!
