Everybody tells you to join a club. There are many reasons to join a club and everybody's is different but here are some of the reasons that a club is so much more than an extracurricular activity.

1. Opportunities

A club is your opportunity to try something new. Even if the club you join is an area that you are familiar with, it will have new activities and information.

2. Networking

No matter what kind of club it is, you will be introduced to other students, faculty, and possibly even guest speakers who share the same interest.

3. Knowledge

You will inevitably learn something new. Whether is it a fun fact from somebody you meet in a club or a wealth of knowledge from a club event, you are going to learn something.

4. Connect With Campus

Clubs create a more personal connection with your campus. You go from being just a student to being somebody who helps take part in making the University better.

5. Find Out What Others Are Doing

The people you meet in clubs share a common interest. You can learn what they are doing whether it's how they learned that soccer trick or how they got an internship. Your peers are a great resource.

6. Learn New Skills

You can always improve your skills. Clubs help develop a variety of skills depending on what the club focuses on. But one thing is for sure, you will leave with new abilities.

7. Teamwork

Clubs help you work on teamwork. Even if it is not a team based club, you are still working with other people to get things done.

8. Study Break

As difficult and as overwhelmed as college can be, you cannot spend the whole time study. Breaks are beneficial and what better break than a club.

9. Stress Reliever

Clubs are a great way to relieve stress because they are a break from your classes. You can go to club meetings and events where you are having fun and getting your mind off your to-do list.

10. Make You Well Rounded

Not only is a club a resume builder, but it also makes you a more well-rounded person. It shows that you do more with your free time than watch Netflix but it also will help you grow.

11. Discover Yourself

Clubs are an opportunity to learn more about yourself. You may be surprised how much a single club can transform you.

12. Spend Free Time

As crazy as it sounds, you will have more free time than you anticipated. A club is a great way to get you out of your room and fill that free time.

13. Improve People Skills

Interacting with people in a club helps you improve your people skills. You may also find yourself working an information table or speaking about your club.

14. Feel More At Home

A club makes you feel like you have found a homey spot within your campus. No matter how big the college, clubs help make it seem smaller and more personal.

15. Make Friends

The friends you make in a club could last a lifetime. You may be surprised how close you become with your club friends. Just because you met in a club does not limit your interactions.

16. Make Memories

Years from now when you look back on college, you will have a whole set of memories from your clubs. You’ll remember all the fun things you did and the amazing people you met.

17. Fun

Clubs are fun. You connect with people who have similar interests. You can completely be yourself.

Take the time to figure out what clubs you are interested in and go join them. You won't regret it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
