Sometime in March of 2016, I got it in my head that it would be a good idea to run a half marathon over the summer. This happened after swim season ended, and after swimming on a year round club team all through high school, to suddenly not have swim practice was very weird. With no idea what to do with my time, I started going on some rather long runsWait,
1. We’re Starting!
You mean this crazy race that I signed up for is real and that I actually have to do it. What have I done with my life?
2. Wow, I’m Running a Half-Marathon!
I’m doing it. There is no turning back now. I am going to do this
3. First Mile Done. Only 12.1 to go... Only 12.1 to go.
4. Mile Two Done. I can do this.
Is it wrong that after running two miles, I still have over ten miles left?
5. Oh uh.
That Looks Like a Big Hill.
I can feel the fear growing in the pit of my stomach. This will be interesting.
6. Why am I still going up this hill?

7. What goes up must come down. Right?
Or is it the other way around in running?
8. At the Summit!
Now I’m going downhill. Finally.
9. Wee!
Time to lengthen my stride, have fun, and hope that I don’t start tumbling.
10. 6.55 miles: Halfway Done. Yay?
There’s no point in stopping now, but there is still a lot more to go.
11. Mile 7.5-8. This is Why People Run.
Here comes the runner's high, that the
people who actually like to run marathons talk about. Maybe they are not as insane as they seem.
12. Mile 10. This is Why People Don't Run.
The runner’s high has faded, and now I just feel horrible.
13. I CAN FINISH THIS!!
At this point, it does not matter how much it hurts, I’m almost done and will finish. There is no turning back now.
14. I Can See The Finish Line.
And at last I see the light. It’s almost over
15. I’M DONE. ![]()
Congratulations to me. I just finished my first half marathon.
