How to avoid being that customer

15 Things To Avoid At The Grocery Store
Melanie Rands

As middle and lower class Americans, we have all worked some kind of service job in our lives. Whether it be the food industry, the retail industry, or even some of the higher-end services jobs such as hospitals or doctor's offices, we all have had those customers that drive us up a wall. Despite this, we can all see some of the those traits in all of us. So here are fifteen things to avoid doing at the grocery store, to avoid being THAT customer.

1. Having the lame Jokes

"Oh, it's not scanning so it must be free!" "Oh, I left my coupons at home!" These are not creative we hear this everyday at least 5 times. Just stop.

2. "Why are you returning this?" "No"

We did not ask ask you a yes or no question. Why do you respond with no?

3. Grabbing the carousel

Seriously guys? Are you really in that big of hurry that you think ripping the carousel out of your cashier's hands is going to make us check you out any faster? It won't, all it does is piss us off, we have to wait for you to let go to finish filling the bag, and sometimes you can really hurt us physically by doing that by smashing the bars into our arms or wrists.

4. Having undisciplined children

This how it feels when you let your screaming kids run around the store.

5. Ignoring us

Do I really need to put this on here? Its rude and you know it, we already have to deal with crappy customers, why add to it?

6. Saying "open more lanes"

Do you think we're hiding cashiers in the back of the store laughing maniacally, and thinking "Man, this will really piss them off!" No. We hate it as much as you do, sometimes people call in and we get short staffed, sometimes we just can't keep employees, and you being rude about it, is not helping.

7. Being impatient at USCAN

We are human beings, not dogs. You look like a two year old throwing a tantrum when you do this.

9. Calling us "Hon", "Sweetie", etc.

We are not your kids, grandkids, or friends, we are here to do a job and get out. You calling us pet names like that is super annoying and uncomfortable, just don't do it Bro.

10. Using expired coupons

Nobody accepts them and if you throw a hissy fit about it, it makes you even more annoying. Check the dates before you try to use them.

11. Bothering us when we're obviously on break

If you're ever curious if we're on break: if there is cluster of us and we're sitting down, we're on break. We don't get many, so you coming up to us to ask us something is really irksome. It's part of the small amount time we have where we don't have to talk to you, so LEAVE US ALONE!

12. Talking on your phone while checking out

If you're on the phone we're not going to be able to ask the questions we need to make your experience more enjoyable. It's also very rude, and we end up having to repeat the same question 500 times for you.

13. Assuming we price match

A lot of grocery stores don't price match, because we end up losing more money. If you want said item at the cheaper price so badly, then buy it from that store.

14. Assuming we know everything about the other departments

We're working in one department all day, everyday, for 8 hour shifts. Don't ask someone who works in General Merchandise if we carry something that is in produce.

15. Leaving items around the store

This is rude and makes our store look awful and messy. If you decide you don't want an item, then take it back where you got it, give it to your cashier when you're checking out, or give it to any team member in that department. It makes our jobs easier and our store look nicer.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
