As we all say hello to 2016, it’s nice to take a second to rewind the clock and highlight some of our favorite songs of 2015.
2015 was a great year for music in virtually every genre. Some familiar artists impressed us with new singles. A few new faces emerged, topping the charts. We even saw the return of one of the most talented vocalists of our generation. As another year of music begins, it’s important to recognize the songs that softly played in the background behind our 2015 highlight reel.
Here is a list of 15 songs we loved in 2015.
1. "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson (ft. Bruno Mars)
This #1 hit stole our hearts and got us all dancing in 2015. People of all ages and generations can not resist bopping along to the beat of this instant classic. Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars killed the game in 2015 by infusing modern pop music with a splash of funk to create a track that we will all be listening to years down the road.
2. "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap
Though Fetty’s first major hit was technically released in 2014, the song caught fire in 2015 and was added to every college kid's pregame playlist seemingly overnight. Whether you know every word or you quietly mumble most of the song and scream “Yeahhhh” with as much vibrato as you can muster up at the time, we can all agree that this track might be the greatest love song of 2015.
3. "Earned It" by The Weeknd
In early 2015, we welcomed a new artist to the main stage…and he did not disappoint. This song, released as the lead single for the "50 Shades of Grey" soundtrack, caught attention of music lovers everywhere. The Weeknd’s beautiful voice and unique arrangement captivated us and added a bit of spice to our Spring 2015.
4. "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa (ft. Charlie Puth)
This was arguably the most overplayed song of 2015, but there is a clear reason why this track was played on every radio station once every hour for what seems like all of 2015…it’s overwhelmingly well written. This Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth single honored the late Paul Walker and was featured on the "Furious 7" soundtrack released in 2015. We will all remember this song and smile, even if it had been a little overplayed.
5. "FourFiveSeconds" by Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney
This collaboration blew us all away in 2015. Though the single was seemingly simple, the lyrics combined with the musical accompaniment to create a work of art. This track may not have gotten us up and dancing in 2015, but it did inspire us and impress us. The best way to truly enjoy this song is by closing your eyes and letting RiRi, Kanye, and Paul soothe your soul.
6. "Sorry" by Justin Bieber
It was difficult to pick which Bieber song to include in this 2015 soundtrack, but this single managed to wedge itself apart from the rest because of its relatable lyrics and irresistible beat. In 2015, Justin proved that he was more than a baby. Justin’s got us all Beliebin' that with a few dropped crotch pants, a couple dozen tattoos, and a previous relationship with Selena Gomez leading to a few Top 10 singles, you can make every/any girl fall in love with you.7. "Take Your Time" by Sam Hunt
This not-your-average country song stole the spotlight in 2015, making its way from a song that country music fans enjoyed to a song that everyone loved. Sam Hunt rose to the top of the charts in 2015, and we will all remember listening to his single at a country music concert tailgate from this past summer.
8. "Cheerleader" by OMI (Felix Jaehn Remix)
This track was, hands down, one of the most popular pop songs of 2015. From the lyrics to the trumpet part, we could not resist singing along to this single. Though you may have tried listening to OMI’s original recording of the song, we can all agree that Felix Jaehn’s remix stole our hearts and got us dancing. We’ll throw this on the soundtrack as a way to remember our favorite remix in 2015.
9. "Shut Up And Dance" by Walk the Moon
They told us to dance, and dance we did. This indie-pop song became everyone’s favorite go-to track to jump around and party along to. We all rocked out to this single in 2015, whether you slammed the roof of your car to the beat of the song or acted out the lyrics with some friends in the basement of a house party. This song is a no brainer for the list of favorite songs of 2015.10. "Sugar" by Maroon 5
Adam Levine. Falsetto. Love song.
Honestly there’s nothing more to say...
11. "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift
In 2015, we all watched video’s from T-Swift’s concerts and dreamed about what it would have been like to attend one of the most talked about tours of the year. We were all grateful when this single came out so that us unlucky, ticketless souls had a song to angrily belt out to release our frustration while still getting our daily dose of Taylor.
12. "Watch Me" by Silento
Every year we need a song that teaches us all some new dance moves that we can use to embarrass ourselves on the dance floor. Even if you haven’t mastered the skill of the “nae nae,” you can throw this single on the soundtrack of 2015 to jam out to whenever you need a pick me up. And keep practicing because this song could potentially follow the “Cha Cha Slide” at a wedding ceremony/bar mitzvah/family party from now until your hair turns gray.
13. "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran
We didn’t fall in love with many slow songs in 2015, but this song by Ed Sheeran managed to steal our hearts and make us all believe in the possibility of a fairy tale love. Is it too early to claim this as my wedding song? Probably, but it’s too late. Now it's time to start learning the choreography from this song's music video…
14. "Hotline Bling" by Drake
It’s a little difficult to distinguish what we all enjoyed more: this song or Drake dancing to this song in his music video. This catchy single had us all dad-dancing like Drake in 2015.15. "Hello" by AdeleJust when we all thought that the music released in 2015 could not get any better…. this English goddess reclaimed her throne and reminded the world the best, and most authentic, music comes from the soul. The 28-second clip of “Hello” aired during an episode of "The X Factor UK" in fall 2015, and the world has been unable to recover since. It took four years for Adele to emerge from the rock she’d been hiding under since her album "21" was released in 2011, and boy, was she worth the wait. If there is one thing we can all assume about music in 2016…it will be the year of Adele.
