I'm a dedicated fan of so much music beyond what's on the radio, there are a vast amount of amazing songs that came out this year that won't be included in this list, because that's not what it's about. These are your guilty pleasure songs, the ones that you hate to love. These are the songs that you're going to hear 5 years down the road and feel nostalgic. The songs that make you miss the good times you spent figuring out college, or saying goodbye to your golden days in high school, or wherever you may be in life right now. You may have heard these songs so much that you can't bear to listen to them anymore, but these are the songs that are going to refuse to be forgotten with 2015, even if you want to forget some of them.
1. Hotline Bling-Drake
This song went from catchy, to extremely quotable, to impossible to escape from. Now you can see it featured in any internet meme, or even on a cute Christmas sweater. The video is catchy and the lyrics are catchier. Even Bernie Sanders found some inspiration in it. I don't know who would personally only call Drake at convenient times for them, but it led to a sadly relatable, but simple song.
2. Hello- Adele
When you first heard this song you were probably like, "wow she did it again" or maybe you even cried. You had to listen to it, because everyone was talking about it. Whether you screamed it in your car with your girlfriends, ate ice cream in your bed listening to it and wallowing in self-pity, or slurred it a bar with every other girl when it came on, you don't think of anyone but Adele when you hear the word "hello." You can even thank her for rattling up any old feelings you've forgotten or any unexpected "hello" texts you've sent to a ghost in your life.
3. Love yourself- Justin Bieber
Nobody can deny that 2015 was the year of the Justin Bieber comeback, devoted fans are saying " I told you so" as millions turned into "beliebers." There's just something about this song that makes it impossible not to sing. This is probably the first Justin Bieber song i've truly enjoyed since "one time" and "one less lonely girl."
4. 679- Fetty Wap
While the lyrics may lack any serious meaning, you cannot resist dancing to this extremely catchy song. Fetty continuously turned out only the catchiest of hits in 2015. This is the type of song that gets girls screaming and pointing to their friends when it comes on.
5. Love me like you do- Ellie Goulding
Coming from early 2015, you may have not even realized this song came out this year. However, in the 50 Shades of Grey era it was everywhere. A female anthem for any girl who had a special guy in her life, until she heard it too many times to find it even remotely romantic anymore.
6. Antidote- Travis Scott
While I didn't know the name of this song for a while, I knew exactly what it was every time it came on. Although it's your generic catchy radio hit, I find something fairly unique about it's sound. You've definitely found yourself bobbing your head telling someone, " Don't you open up that window."
7. Wildest Dreams- Taylor Swift
Can we make it through a year without a Taylor Swift hit? Probably, not. This song has a very whimsical, slightly childish sound, while still maintaining a sense of romance. As simple as the chorus may be, it's extremely catchy.
8. Jumpman- Drake
I don't see how you can hear this song without singing and dancing. Thank you again Drake, this one's slightly less popular than Hotline Bling, thankfully also slightly less overplayed.
9. The Hills - The Weeknd
This song is great to party to, workout to, or just to play when you need to get pumped up with some fierce bass. If someone came to mind during the "I only call you when its half past five" part you can best believe they're thinking of you during Hotline Bling's "you used to call me on my cellphone, late night when you need my love."
10. My Way- Fetty Wap (Again)
Another Fetty classic, also lacking much substance, but still a great song to jam out to and know all the words. There's something about "baby won't you come my way" that just rolls off the tongue.
11. This Could Be us- Rae Sremmurd
If the early, "na na na na na na na's" aren't catchy enough the words sure are. In a society where dating has become "Netflix and Chill" it's easy to say many people find themselves relating to the extremely quotable, infamous hashtag, and memorable lyrics " this could be us but you playing."
12. See you again- Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth
With an interesting mix of pretty song by Charlie Puth, and some bars from the infamous Wiz Khalifa, this song is nothing but sentimental. It's refreshing to hear a modern song that places an emphasis on family, rather than some of the more shallow themes commonly appearing in music today.
13. Again- Fetty Wap (Yes, Again)
Fetty kept it going with this one, I think this one might be slightly deeper than the others. Basically Fetty's shoutout to the girl he wants back. 2015, definitely without a doubt had Fetty's lifestyle driving us all crazy. He doesn't forget to mention that he's still "married to the money." Shoutout to Trap Queen, the song i'll forever hate how much i love.
14. Cheerleader- Omi
This song highlighted my second semester last year, I heard it anywhere and everywhere, it was my first choice for my "wow freshman year was great" pic stitch. I don't know if it's the instrumental solo at the very beginning or the catchy beat throughout it, but this song makes you want to sing and dance, and it's hard to say you never loved it.
15. Stressed out- Twenty One Pilots
Twenty One Pilots definitely has a unique sound, and some very devoted fans. The music hasn't always been so widely popular and I think it's great that it's becoming more well-known. While i'm sure some of the original fans are a little disheartened that their secret is getting out,Twenty One Pilots is a great band and the more people that get to hear them the better.
