With the school year just about two weeks away, students everywhere are going to be stressed out over classes, homework, sports, clubs, and actually trying to have a normal social life. Instead of turning to food or binge-watching Netflix or ending up having a total meltdown, here are some different things to do to help lessen the stress that you are going to be under. (Or anyone who is stressed about anything.)

1. Taking a bath

If you need something relaxing to do or need something to help yourself calm down, this can be your go-to.

2. Or taking a shower

Sometimes your best ideas come in the shower and it gives you time to think things through.

3. Getting your nails done or doing them yourself

Doing them on your own even makes you feel productive (in my opinion).

4. Enjoying the sunshine

Whether it is tanning or getting in your daily Vitamin D, this can be another go-to when feeling stressed.

5. Just sitting outside

Where the birds are chirping and the bees are buzzing.

6. Going shopping

If you go with the intention that it doesn’t matter if you get something or you’re not looking for anything specifically, shopping is fun and exciting—especially if you find something really cute.

7. Painting

You don’t have to be an artist, to paint. Just the act of painting can be fun and stress-relieving.

8. Reading

There are recent studies that show reading at least 30 minutes a day is tied to a longer life.

9. Taking a nap

Waking up from a nap can be one of the most refreshing feelings in the world.

10. Having a cup of coffee

It’s especially energizing when you wake up in the morning or after your afternoon nap.

11. Or tea

If coffee isn’t your cup of tea.

12. Running or walking

Studies have found that running and/or walking improves psychological well-being.

13. Listening to music

The real question is who isn’t happier when they are listening to music?

14. Lighting a candle

Candles just have this calming vibe and add to the aroma of relaxation.

15. Stargazing

“Staring at the stars was like staring backward in time, since some stars are so far away that their light takes millions of years just to reach us. That we see stars not as they look now, but as they were when dinosaurs roamed the earth.” –Nicholas Sparks, The Choice

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
