14 Things I Learned From Working With Marsha Doll

The last two months have been a really wonderful experience. After applying and receiving the job to work with Marsha Doll, an incredible and well-known modeling agent, I began to learn so much about the industry and its fast paced and exciting energy. While it has been a really cool experience helping her book jobs, email clients, and attend events, I really have learned a lot about what it means to be a confident, professional, and endearing individual. I also attended one of Marsha's two-hour modeling and acting classes so that I could see what exactly she taught and believed in. Marsha has worked so hard in her industry to promote confidence. Whether it be in a casting call, a job interview, or just in everyday life, Marsha loves the opportunity to teach and show others how to have faith and trust in their own abilities, personalities, and assets. Working with her has been an absolute honor and I have learned so much. Since I think she is so fascinating and fabulous, I thought I'd share some of her wisdom and insight with you. So here are 14 things I've learned from working with the incredible Marsha Doll.

1. Walk with a purpose.

When you are walking from point A to point B, walk with a purpose. Hold your shoulders back, chin up, and strut. Never look at the ground, it will always be there. Be a presence.

2. Never be afraid of what others might think.

It's okay to be who you are no matter what. If that is goofy and silly and that's what makes you happy, then be that. At the end of the day, you make you happy. In the business, people want to see you sparkle, shine, and stand out. So be what stands out and makes you shine.

3. Always be yourself.

If you land a job, start a relationship, or go into any situation not being yourself, you will never be comfortable or happy. Love yourself and be happy being who you are.

4. Don't be afraid to be over the top.

It's OK to wear crazy shoes, laugh a little too loud, snort when you laugh or wear overalls if you feel like it. As long as you are happy doing it, that should be all that matters .

5. Kindness is always a great idea.

You never know who could be your boss, your brother-in-law, the next cop to pull you over, or your teacher one day, so treat everyone with respect and kindness. People will appreciate and admire your smile and your thoughtfulness and that can go a long way.

6. Demand attention.

Walk into a room with confidence and you will be noticed. Strut your stuff and be the star of the show.

7. Unfortunately, you are always being judged no matter what.

Sadly, it is our human nature to judge. But with that being said, it gives you more of an excuse to be yourself. Not everyone will like you or love you and that's okay as long as you love yourself. So accept that not everyone will agree and move on and be who you want to be.

8. A smile will always be your greatest asset.

You can't go wrong with a smile because your positivity will radiate. Marsha would agree with Annie that "you're never fully dressed without a smile".

9. Be professional and classy at all times.

Dress, act, and be professional at all times. An interview should mean dressing up and not wearing your cut off jeans and a tank top. Not to mention, you should always show up on time and act appropriately.

10. Never put something on social media that you wouldn't show your grandmother.

The internet is forever. Make sure that you are putting your best foot forward.

11. Go that extra mile.

Don't be afraid to meet someone new, shake hands with the interviewer, dress up, and make an impression. Never take the easy way out. Although it may take more time and be harder, going the extra mile will pay off in the long run.

12. Put your pride in everything you do.

Passion and pride can move you to do incredible things. Be proud of your accomplishments but always strive for better the next time. A passionate person is a driven person.

13. Turn your fear into a thrill.

If you are scared to death of karaoke, do it. If you are nervous to talk to that cute guy or girl, do it. If you are terrified of the interview for a new job, do it. Make it a challenge to overcome and make it a mountain to climb. Let your heart race and then leap.

14. Most of all, be fabulous.

Always remember that being who you are is fabulous. Strut, smile, and be yourself and you will go far.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
