15 Signs You Were Born To Be G Phi B

With thousands of active members and even more past alumnae, the Gamma Phi Beta sorority has helped to foster friendships since November 11, 1874. As a sister of Gamma Phi Beta myself, I can attest to our deeply rooted traditions that help foster our four core values of Love, Labor, Learning, and Loyalty. I promise to always love my sorority, even if our official color is brown and mode, because this sisterhood was founded upon a rock.

Without further ado, here are 15 things that bind us as international sisters of the one and only G Phi B.

1. Carnations

Everyone knows it—your mom, your s.o., your sisters, even your dog—they all know to get you carnations for every special occasion. It is simply a bonus that they are the longest lasting flower and that they stick around forever, kind of like your sisters.

2. That special place in your heart (deep down, I mean DEEP down…) for brown and mode

Okay, yup, we all hate brown and mode. I do not know a single girl in my chapter jumping for joy over a brown and lighter brown t-shirt. However, we all know the history around it, and that is pretty cool, I guess. We are all hopelessly trying to avoid brown, but yet we silently let it grow on us over the years.

3. Moons

If there are moons on it, you own it. Plus, when the actual moon is in the sky, it is like a special lunar shout out to you and all your sisters.

Waning gibbous? Waxing gibbous? I’m not sure? But you still snap a pic for those Insta likes. #sisters #gpb

4. Helen M. Dodge

Let’s face it; she is your home girl.

5. Low key (high key) using pink instead of brown

Even if you don’t like pink, it is definitely a better alternative.

6. You like building strong girls

Our philanthropy is pretty cool, and you love that we actually get to make a difference in the lives of young women.

7. What are our hand symbols?

Self-explanatory and slightly difficult to throw what you know.

8. Crescent arms

They never end up looking as cute as the pictures sent from (inter)nationals. Yours end up looking like funky noodle arms, and you most likely just ruined a cute photo op.

9. You love your badge

It was designed by Tiffany, after all.

10. Do not call us “gamma.”

It is gamma phi, gamma phi beta, gpb, or even gphi.

11. You love your sisters to the moon and back

You own multiple shirts, canvases, etc with this saying on it.

12. When you feel obligated to like "Wicked" or anything with Kristin Chenoweth in it, because sisterhood

Throwback to that shout out last year!

13. Recent emojis include both the crescent and the back arrow symbols

Okay, let's be real, they also include the two pink hearts, the girl who looks like she is throwing the gamma, as well as the starry sky.

14. You have already planned your wedding, baby shower, and life with your sisters

They are always there for you and they have your back!

15. The crest

Honestly, our crest is just really cool.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
