Six Reasons To Go Gamma Phi Beta

Gamma Phi Beta was founded upon a rock.

Every strong relationship is built on a solid foundation, and the bonds you will build in Gamma Phi will last the rest of your life. It’s always hard to leave home and make friends somewhere new. Your sisters will be there to help you through the hard times and give you strength when you feel weak. “Since the rock is the firmest and most enduring substance, able to withstand the ravages of time, and offer the strongest protection." — Founder E. Adeline Curtis (Syracuse, 1874)

We made the word “sorority” a thing.

We weren’t the first women’s fraternity, but we were the first "sorority." In 1874, our four brave founders met in secret to form the first all woman’s fraternity which was deemed a sorority in our honor. That’s right, we're the innovators.

We have a passion for building strong girls.

As a sorority, we make it our goal to become involved in philanthropies who have a mission to teach young girls how to grow up with grace, intelligence and confidence. In today’s society, it is too easy for a young girl to get caught up in the negativity of the media and social norms. Society has created an expectation for girls that makes us vulnerable to a loss of self-confidence. We strive to raise awareness and serve as mentors in order to be proactive about this growing problem within society.

Our love for each other is out of this world.

Our symbol is the crescent moon, which is why we always say we love each other to the moon and back. The crescent is more than just a symbol, though. It represents our continuous growth as a sorority as well as our ability to find personal growth in the friendships we make along the way. The two ends of the crescent point towards each other to show the continuous circle of growth and love that Gamma Phi Beta embodies.

Tiffany and Co. That is all.

Our Gamma Phi Beta badge that we proudly wear on our chest was designed personally by Tiffany’s. Every girl loves her diamonds and pearls.

Gamma Phi Beta is forever the most amazing decision I have made.

The pink carnation is known as one of the longest-lasting flowers which symbolizes the relationships we make. Sisterhood isn’t something that lasts four years; it lasts a lifetime. I know that 50 years down the road, I will look back with my friends by my side and reminisce on the day we got our bids or about all the other hilarious memories we have together. They’ll be by my side the day I get married, the day I become a mother and the day I have no one else to turn to. My sisters are as lovely as the pink carnation, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Gamma Phi Beta is a group of fun, loving and diverse girls and I am honored to call myself a member.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
