13 Signs You Were Once An Emo Kid

Middle school was a dark time for everyone. For those like me, we chose to show this darkness in the most literal way possible. By brooding in our black converse and neon skinny jeans. Now it’s several years later and you found new ways to show your individuality. My Chemical Romance is over and Fall Out Boy doesn’t speak to you like it used to. One thing over time remains the same. If the following applies to you, you were an emo kid.

1. "When I was a young boy my father took me into the city, to see a marching band". Admit it, you just belted that out and now the whole song is stuck in your head.

2. You hated your mom for not letting you get snakebite piercings even though you were 13 and “pretty much an adult”.

3. These were a staple in your wardrobe and still probably lying in your closet somewhere.

4. Pon and Zi littered your Myspace page.

5. Also featured were multiple black and white pictures of the rain with “inspiring” quotes.

6. Sometimes you’ll have nightmares about the amount of eyeliner you used to wear.

7. Every time you put on your fingerless gloves, you felt like the coolest person in the world.

8. You were heartbroken when Pete Wentz got married (and not to you)

9. You couldn’t support a band without getting a rubber bracelet with their name emblazoned on it.

10. On bad hair days you blame former you for the teasing and hair dye.

11. The majority of your selfies were in black and white because you were too deep for color.

12. You would spend hours searching photobucket for the best picture of a black rose to describe your current mood.

13. When the sun shines too brightly, you wonder if it's too late to go back your old ways.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
