13 Questions That Remain Unanswered
Lisa Force Relationship Coach

During this past school year, a friend and me jokingly began using a hashtag between the two of us, #QuestionsThatHauntMe. I recently scrolled over some old tweets where I had used this hashtag for questions that were never really answered. It got me thinking of different questions in everyday life, movies, songs and other things that we are inevitably left without answers. So here’s a list of some of those questions that remain unanswered.

1. Why do we press harder on the remote when the batteries are going dead?

I guess it’s an impulse of our nature. For some reason, that extra force is sure to flip the channel. Heck, we all know that person that will risk breaking a thumb before changing out the batteries in the remote.

2. Why do we return to the fridge expecting there to be food when there wasn’t five minutes ago?

OK, I admit this is me about three times a week…

3. What are those?

For a question I’m sure has been asked millions of times, do we ever find out?

4. How do dead bugs always appear in enclosed light fixtures?

I could give no better example for a question that haunts me. Classroom, living room, airport—it never fails. Kudos to you bugs for always finding ways to creep us out.

5. Why doesn’t glue stick to the bottle?

Magic, obviously.

6. Is there ever a day mattresses are not on sale?

Bet you never asked yourself this one! I dare you to find one mattress store not having a sale today!

7. Why do we enter a room and immediately forget why we entered?

This is another one I admit to, not three times a week, though. But hey, it’s better than trying to find your phone when you’re talking on it, right?

8. What’s in the last FedEx box in "Cast Away"?

A great movie…but someone pointed this out to me and I’ve been frustrated ever since. For those of you who haven’t seen this movie or need a refresher, Tom Hanks is a FedEx driver who is stranded on an island. He uses the contents of the packages to stay alive until he can be rescued. However, he keeps only one package unopened determined to deliver it when he returns. When he does, we never see what’s inside!

9. Who let the dogs out?

Did you forget about this one? First asked by Baha Men in 2000, then asked by every single person since. Yet still no idea who it was.

10. Why do we move our bodies along with the controller like it actually helps?

I guess this is our way of getting a workout in while we sit in front of the TV playing Xbox or PlayStation.

11. Where’s J.R. Smith’s shirt?

The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA championship Sunday. At the after-party, Cavs guard J.R. Smith took his shirt off…nearly a week later, he’s still missing his shirt. All I know is someone’s about to make a lot of money on eBay.

12. Why didn’t Scar just kill Simba when he killed Mufasa?

Yes, I agree, there would be no movie and a slightly bad childhood if this was how it played out. But let’s be honest, if the events portrayed in "The Lion King" were real, that was what would've happened.

13. Why do people always open the door weird sounds are coming from in scary movies?

Another #QuestionsThatHauntMe…literally. When will people wise up? If you value your life, run! If not, I have no sympathy when you open that door and a giant man in a hockey mask is standing there or a gruesome half-faced demon…tough luck.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
