12 Things That Make Kansas State University The Best

I will always advocate for others to come to K-State.

Every time I go home or run into someone I knew before high school I always get the question of “how is school going?” or “how are you liking K-State? Are you happy?” and I tend to give the same answers, which are definitely true but they are borderline generic. Yes, I am extremely happy and I know I made the right decision on my major and attending K-State and working to be a part of Classy Cats. But there’s more than just those few things on why I am happy at K-State. And I will always advocate for others to come here and I thought I would share a few reasons why.

1. You are bound to see at least 2 people you know when walking around campus

For real, though, every time I walk to class I pass at least 2 people I know from another class, my sorority, or girls on Classy Cats.

2. Everything is purple

But who doesn’t love the color purple anyway??

3. Varsity donuts are less than a dollar

No but seriously they are. What better way to start your day than with some of the best donuts you’ll taste around just $1.

4. I can be whoever I want and there is at least 1 other person by my side

I seem to be constantly figuring out new aspects of who I am as a friend, student, and sister and I seem to always find someone with the same feelings, thoughts, or struggles and because it is a smaller school it is not hard to find someone with that similarity.

5. There is not better feeling than walking into Bill Snyder Stadium on game day

Just experience it for yourself. Seeing the sea of purple and watching everyone do the Wabash and chanting crazy cheers for Bill and the team, there is no better feeling.

6. The people I’ve met here have made some of the biggest impact on me to this day in my life

People aren’t lying when they talk about meeting their best friends at K-State. It’s a real thing. Whether from your sorority or classes or just talking to someone new in the dining center, you meet some of the best people in your life up in the Little Apple.

7. You can always find a way to make a class enjoyable

Trust me. I thought writing papers would be the death of me in English100 or learning how to audit in Accounting231 would cause physical pain but turns out I can find something good even about those classes, so I suppose anything is possible.

8. You will talk to one new person a day because everyone is so friendly

Not kidding, I can walk through Aggieville for lunch or print something at Hale Library and a random stranger will say hi to me. What’s friendlier than that?

9. It’s far enough away from home for independence but close enough for emergencies

Growing up and finding independence is a big deal to me but I don’t want to be so far away that I can’t drive home one weekend to see my sister cheer or get her ready for her prom night and Manhattan fulfills both wants.

10. Who doesn’t love the smell of cows as a warning before it's about to storm

You’ll thank me later. When you smell the manure you know there’s a storm a-brewing and you should wear a hood that day. And maybe some nose plugs...

11. Pat Bosco drives a purple car and waves at you walking down Manhattan Avenue

You wont realize it at first, but seeing the purple car drive down Manhattan Avenue honking and Pat Bosco waving to you on your way to/from the business building or Aggieville will be the highlight of your day.

12. It gives a completely new definition to feeling like you are a part of a family

Family has always been a major part of my life, and coming to K-State and a new environment I was worried if I would loose that part of me. But I have never felt a stronger bond with people who are just as excited about game day or hearing the fight song or Wabash being played somewhere or feeling so much pride going to a school where you connect with so many people and always feel like you are at home.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
