So after a great idea from my wonderful editor, I decided to write about my hometown and a few of the defining characteristics. And I'm sure you all know how much I love "The Office," so there's a few gifs from that too. Anyways, in high school, I couldn’t wait to head out of here, get to college where everything would be different, and meet new people. But after a year of that, I realized that I was blessed beyond belief with the life I have in this town. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. So here’s a shout out to this wonderful place that we all thought we’d grow out of:
1. You love Roosters, Los Rios, and The Station House and you get upset when nobody wants to eat there.
2. When you go to Kroger, you are nearly guaranteed to see someone you know, especially if you’re looking like you just rose from the dead.
3. When college breaks happen, you will be reunited with all your friends (and enemies) from high school, even if you're not ready.
4. Summer means Dairy Queen runs with your favorite people, especially after a sermon during summer revival.
5. When you use the phrase FoCo and anyone who isn’t from around here thinks you’ve lost it.
6. If you were an athlete, you still keep up with the athletics here. Even if it’s only because you have a mutual follow with the Forsyth County newspaper from when you were playing.
7. You know everyone, even if you have to pretend you don’t because you’ve most definitely stalked his or her social media multiple times.
8. At least once a week someone posts on Instagram or Snapchat about the Indian Seats. Sadly, when you go, you're always exhausted from the hills that you walked up.
9. You get genuinely upset when anyone talks bad about our hometown, especially the younger generations that live here.
10. The Avenue, or as those who aren't from around here call it: The Collection. Everyone started going to it in middle school and just never stopped. But hey? What else would you do on the weekends?
11. The fair comes every year and you don’t even have to wonder if everyone you know will be there, because they will be. Which sometimes makes you wish you could wear a disguise.
12. You feel the pain from a death or illness of those around you, because those people are family to your family, and that's what ultimately matters in this life. And you know that they will always be there for you.
13. School rivalries are real, so make sure to not do anything to jeopardize that.
14. You know where ninety percent of your graduating class ended up because of Facebook and you're not too worried about the other ten percent.
15. Even if you are away for a little or a long time, you know you will always come back.
And that’s it readers! Let’s be honest, we are all truly blessed with this little town and even if all of these don’t apply to you, some of them do. So be proud of the memories, the people you grew up with, and the place you may grow old in after all. It may have seemed close to a prison when we were growing up but as we got older, we saw it for what it always has been and always will be; HOME.
