Every short girl knows that being short has it’s ups and downs. Sometimes there are many downs such as: not being able to reach things on the top shelf, never being able to touch our feet to the ground when sitting on a high chair, always getting used as a armrest and etc. The most annoying thing that comes out of being short is that people are always asking questions about our height. We all can relate to these 12 things people ask us.

1. How old are you?

Well, thank you. I will take that as a compliment. It just means I will age well.

2. You are just so cute.

When I hear the word cute, I definitely think of a little baby or a cute animal. Come on, I just want to be beautiful or pretty once in awhile, not just cute.

3. You’re funny when you’re mad.

When I’m mad, I want people to actually take me seriously not “awe look how cute she is when she is mad.” NO, I’m mad, it’s not funny or cute.

4. Wow, you’re short.

Ummm like I didn’t know.

5. Can I help you with that?

If I needed your help, I would of asked. I can totally do things tall people do….just with a chair or stool, maybe.

6. Didn’t you wear that shirt 5 years ago?

Yes, I can fit into many of my old clothes from high school. Actually I could probably fit into clothes from middle school. I guess that’s a good thing in a way while growing up, huh?

7. You have to sit on a cushion to drive?

Yes, I have to sit on something to see over the steering wheel. It’s not that uncommon, I don’t think.

8. Short people, get in the front.

No matter the event: pictures, choir concerts, rides at the amusement parks, I always have to be in the front. I don’t mind being in the front but sometimes it can get annoying.

9. Do you need help getting up there?

Yeah, I suppose.

10. You might need to get those pants hemmed?

Yeah, pants are typically longer than my legs. Sometimes I might even trip on it once in awhile but hemming every single jeans or pants are a little costly. Don’t just ask, offer.

11. Are you old enough to be here, you look 12?

Yes, or I wouldn’t be here. Just check my ID. Jeez

12. Did you even grow?

Ummm, yeah I grew. People, I am not that short.

Even though we get asked all these questions, we are definitely proud to be short.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
