Why Being A Short Girl Is Actually Great

Many of us short girls look at being short as a curse... We can't reach the top of our closet, we never got the top locker in high school, our feet do not touch the ground when we sit in chairs, clothing...well pants are awful. That's just a few things that plague us in a world where the average height is what we consider tall. But being short actually has a few great perks that you might not realize. However, no worries! I'm here to enlighten you on why being short isn't so bad.

1) Your legs are never cramped in a car, bus, plane or lecture hall.

It's true though, has anyone ever been in the front seat and asked you 'you have enough room?' and you're just looking at your knees like 'uh like half a foot.'

2) Children's clothing = money saved.

If you didn't know this, you do now! Being short and petite is great when buying expensive clothing. Jerseys? I buy children sizes because they're still pretty big enough but they don't swallow me whole.

3) You'll never have to worry about wearing heels with a guy.

I've never had to worry about whether or not I can wear 6 inch wedges or not with my boyfriend...him being 6'4 really helps with my 5'1, but still being short means you never have to worry about being taller than you're boyfriend.

4) Curl up into things.

Car rides, plane rides, movie theaters and basically any tight space where taller people may struggle to get comfy...we short people are infinitely more comfortable just because of our size.

5) Blankets and towels are never too short.

Tall people have to worry about blankets being to short to fully cover them while we can use throw blankets to wrap up in and be just as warm. Tall people struggle with finding towels they can lay on at the beach without their head or feet sticking off, short people don't.

6) People always underestimate you in sports.

I was a center back in high school soccer and the tall forwards would always underestimate me until it was too late. We have a lower center of gravity which really hits tall people hard if you know how to use it. I always knocked tall girls off their feet with no problem, taught them not to underestimate me. People never expect us to be fast either, but I've known my fair share of fast short athletes.

7) Crowd weaving is a breeze.

In a crowd you can weave through people like second nature and usually they let you because in all honesty, they can see over your head so they're not missing anything by letting you in front of them.

8) Never having to duck.

Yeah we get teased from time to time about not having to duck under branches or anything that normal sized people would have to, but at least we don't have to worry about hitting our head or getting stuff in our hair.

9) People normally trust you without a doubt.

Being short comes with the adjective cute or adorable, which people don't associate with liars. So when in a situation which people would normally be doubted, short people are usually more believable due to the cute factor.

10) You never really grow out of clothing.

I have so much clothing at this point in my life that I have 3 closets and 2 dressers, but the great part is that all of my clothing still fits me the way it did 5 years ago. I never have the 'too small' or 'too short' problem in life because clothing is usually too big or too long when I buy it.

So yeah being short sucks at times, but there are some great parts to it. We may not have model legs, and weight may show up more quickly on us then taller girls, but we have perks that tall people don't, so I think we still win in regards to being short.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
