For those of you who don't know gymnastics, it is a weird sport. You put on a tight leotard, that most of the time ends up giving you a wedgie. You flip on an 8-inch piece of wood. You swing on metal bars until you get callouses on your hands (while using powdery chalk to help you stick). You run full force towards a giant stationary object. And you prance around a floor trying to combine power with grace, impressing a panel of judges who watch your every move (and you have to refrain from picking your wedgie of course). Who ever created the idea of such a sport? For those of you who are gymnasts, this strikes home to you. No matter how weird or crazy the sport is, you love it more than anything and are dying to relive your gymnastics days. I'd like to think once a gymnast, always a gymnast. Here are some signs that you still have not given up your "gymnast ways".
1. You're always pointing your toes.
Whether you’re sitting around the house or you're in class, you find yourself pointing your toes without even knowing it.
2. You sit in a straddle.
While everyone else sits criss-cross, you automatically go to the straddle position, because it is the most comfortable.
3. You get urges to cartwheel in random places.
(Questionably under the influence).
4. You have awesome balance in everything you do.
And show it off whenever possible.
5. You own a million scrunchies.
And still wear them all the time.
6. You find any reason to wear your old leotards.
Whether it's to dress up for Halloween, themed parties, or to relive the old days... you can't resist.
7. You still put your kips to the test.
You try to do kips on any "bar like" object possible. Monkey bars.. tree branches.. they'll do.
8. Whenever people talk about past injuries they've had, you have a million to add to the list.
Sprained ankles, broken fingers, minor concussions... you've had them all.
9. You look forward to the Olympics just to watch the Gymnastics part.
You religiously follow the gymnasts, teams, and scores and feel just as nervous as the gymnasts do in the competition.
10. You still think you can do all of the skills... when actually, you can't.
"It sounded good in my head..."
11. You do back bends when you need to stretch out or crack your back.
It's the only way to get the kinks out. I feel bad for the people who can't do this.
12. You’ve attempted other sports that “gymnasts are usually good at”... but it's never the same.
Cheerleading.. Diving... Pole Vaulting... you may have tried them all, but it will never compare to Gymnastics.
Because gymnastics will always have your heart.
