You still have frequent nightmares about the first day of preseason your freshman year.
Who would’ve thought your coach wasn’t kidding when he/she said you’d be running a timed three-mile?
You’re now capable of doing literally anything in a skirt.
If you can run around a field hitting a cement ball using an upside-down candy cane, the sky is the limit.
You squint really hard and close one eye and can still identify your shin guard tan line.
Just face it, it's never going to fully go away.
You’ve learned to play on basically any surface known to man.
Baseball infield, turf, grass that hasn’t been cut for 6+ months and when times got desperate, cement.
You can basically recite famous athlete’s inspirational quotes in your sleep.
After numerous pep talks, team rallies, senior night posters and mental breakdowns, they’ve been permanently engrained into your head.
You've never heard a more beautiful sound than the 'click' the ball makes when it hits the back of the cage.
Game. On.
You’ll never forget your 15 minutes of fame.
Being featured in the local newspaper or on the school television broadcast was a big deal. As much as you love field hockey, major news outlets never really caught on for some reason.
You still flinch a little bit whenever you hear the words “flat” or “through."
Even if it has nothing to do with field hockey.
You’ve never felt worse pain than that time you practiced long hits in the freezing cold but forgot to bring gloves.
I mean, you don't really need fingers, do you?
You can’t remember the last time you ate more carbs than at team dinners.
Nevertheless, you could do so without the slightest bit of guilt knowing that you would burn it all off the next day.
You vividly remember contemplating, on more than one occasion, whether or not to purposely get hurt in order to avoid having to endure the sprints at the end of practice.
What's really worse, sprinting when you feel like you're going to pass out, or actually passing out?
You would do almost anything to be back playing again with your team.
Regardless of how crappy your high school experience was.
