12 Reasons Why NHL Boys Are The Best

It’s no secret that, whether or not they actually like hockey, girls really like hockey boys. And if you don’t, you're about to. I promise.

  1. Their Bodies
Let’s just get the most obvious one out of the way here: they are hot as h-e-double hockey sticks (pun intended). Hockey works arms, core, back, legs, (and most importantly) glutes, so you have a fully-fledged muscle machine man ready to admire.
  2. Hockey Flow
Trailing closely behind their amazing bodies are the luscious locks of hair. If there is one thing hockey boys are known for, it’s their flow. Long and flippy, it’s just beckoning for you to come run your fingers through it.
  3. Cash Flow
Although they are not the highest grossing athletes, the average salary for an NHL player is $2.58 million. The top-earning NHL player is Sidney Crosby at $16.5 million, including $4.5 million off the ice [in endorsements] (forbes.com).
  4. Brainiac
Don’t be fooled by their stunning exteriors, if you need a little more substance with your men, a few tests have shown that “hockey [players] obtained scores of 130 and above, putting them in the category of Very High IQ people” (surveyonics).
(Lee Stempniak who graduated from Dartmouth, currently playing for the Boston Bruins.)
  5. Fan Love
The best part about these boys is watching the way they interact with their fans. Nothing pulls on heartstrings like an NHL player stopping to acknowledge someone that has watched them play and rooted for them constantly.
  6. Puppies!
Okay, I lied, nothing pulls on heartstrings more than an NHL player and puppies. The Washington Capitols create an annual calendar that comes from a photoshoot with dogs from Homeward Trails’ Animal Rescue to encourage fans to adopt. How precious!
  7. Sexualized Hockey Puns
Hockey terms are the best for dirty puns. What other sport gives you the chance to say “puck me” or “zam-boner”? There are all too many opportunities to use “high sticking,” “power play” and “slapshot” in reference to your favorite NHL boy.
  8. Manly Men
Although I have been referring to them as boys, NHL players are men. They're strong and tough and this is only further proven by the hockey fights they're constantly engaged in. Unlike other sports where players are sometimes carried off the court or field for a leg cramp, hockey players hold their own after glove-dropping fights.
(Pascal Dupuis pulling out his own tooth)
  9. Family Men
Despite the tough outer shell, hockey guys have been seen and known to be caring fathers and loving husbands. They are sweet and careful with kids, whether it be a fan or their own child.
  10. Funny Guys
We’ve covered the fact that hockey players are strong, caring, and loyal, but they are also big jokesters. Often seen joking around with their teammates on the ice and over social media.
  11. Charitable Boys
To add to all their listed charming qualities, many players have their own charities they donate to or have organized to help various different causes. One example is Henrik Zetterberg’s foundation to help give back to the city of Detroit and and also aid children and education globally. You can check it out here.
  12. Always Respectful
The best and most admirable quality of these unique athletes is the respect they have for their teammates and their opponents alike. After every game in any sport teams assemble for a handshake line. In hockey, it is especially commendable to see players line up and shake their adversary’s hand because rivalries in the sport can be so huge and no other sports have one-on-one (and sometimes more) fights like hockey. It’s a great tradition in the NHL and a perfect example of sportsmanship.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
