12 Reasons Everyone Should Own A Dog In College

College is filled with a lot of emotions, twists and turns, and friendships. Make sure one of those friendships is with a dog.

We all know that dogs were given to us by God for when we really need some love and comfort. When they aren't licking us to death, they are sleeping at our feet. When they aren't staring intensely into your eyes, they are dropping their toy right on top of your "due tomorrow" homework. So because dogs are essentially the best thing going, here are 12 reasons dogs are even better when owned during our college years.

1. Cuteness

Dogs are cute at all times of the day. It is when you come in from a long day, have yet to had dinner, and have cried a total of eight times over silly things that your dog becomes that much cuter. Cuteness=comfort.

2. A Bear That Breathes

Instead of having to hug a lifeless teddy bear at night, dogs volunteer themselves to do that job. Looking like a bear with a heartbeat, dogs provide countless smiles when you need it most.

3. Puppy Breath

I mean really, who could turn away puppy breath?

4. They Give You A Purpose

It is okay to admit that sometimes we just feel inadequate; like we cannot please anyone and that we simply aren't needed. Dogs prove that to be very wrong considering they are about as needy as it gets.

5. Company

Dogs like to keep you company, whether you want it or not. This is essential in college for those moments when people just aren't cutting it.

6. Warmth (No Matter The Season)

No matter the weather, your pup will never fail to keep you extra warm. For all of those times that you are laying on the cold floor studying, consider a dog instead of a blanket.

7. Laughter

Sometimes, a dog's only purpose is to make you laugh, even on the days where nothing seems it could be funny. No matter how socky the situation, a dog can always turn your day right around.

8. Naps

College students are really great at napping, as are dogs. They help to remind you when enough is enough. All it takes is watching your dog go lay down for a nap for you to decide that you should reward yourself with one also.

9. Exercise

The dreaded "Freshmen-Fifteen" is pretty misleading considering weight gain is a big possibility at any point during your college career. Thankfully, with the help of a four-legged friend, that worry does not have to become reality. With two walks a day, you are your dog will stay nice and healthy!

10. Cured (By A Dog?)

Believe it or not, dog can actually help you to get better faster when you are sick. Maybe it's the puppy eyes, maybe its something more scientific. Regardless, adding a little bit of dog to your concoction of Ibuprofen, orange juice, and tissues can actually help dramatically.

11. To Help Get You Out There

There are going to be plenty of moments where all you want to do is sit inside and watch more episodes of Friends. Without knowing it, however, dogs can actually help you to become more social. Whether it is taking your dog to the park to play with friends or going to visit someone who is dying to see you new pup, dogs are helping to get you out there!

12. And Last...

Dogs really are man's best friend. At the end of the day (good or bad) your dog is always there with plenty of kisses. They love on you when the test grade was bad and bounce around with you when you aced your research paper. Friendships can come and go, but the relationship you build with your college dog is forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
