Why Having A Dog In College Is The Best

Everyone will tell you that getting a dog in college is not a good idea. Stop. Don't listen to them. Getting a dog in college is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It helps relieve stress, makes you smile, gets you moving, and they will always love you.

You will always have a wagging tail to come home to.

The second you leave your pup, all they are waiting for is the next time they can see you. When you walk in the door, their little tails are wagging, and you become the best part of their day. There's nothing like coming home to a dog to make your day even better.

Stressful days lead to cuddle sessions.

College can definitely get the best of us all, but when you have a dog you can look forward to going home, watching Netflix, and laying with your best furry friend.

You have a kissing alarm clock.

If they aren't sleeping, they're playing! Once they decide it's time to wake up, they make sure you're awake as well. They'll nudge you and kiss you and wait until the second you can play with them. They're the best alarm clocks a person could have.

You have a workout partner.

Running alone isn't always fun and that's a fact. But your little friend is always down for a good run or walk! It's the best way for you two to burn some energy on a long day. No matter what exercise you're looking to do, they'll just be happy to be outside and enjoying the sun with you.

They make you talk to strangers.

In a world of humans being consumed by technology, we don't always acknowledge others. A great part about having a dog is the fact that many people want to pet your dog while you're out and about. This leads you to branching out and even making new friends!

They'll force you to get up.

On days where it is gloomy, cold, and rainy and you just want to stay home, your little pup is going to have to do their business at some time! Your dog is going to get you out of bed and motivate you to get going with your day.

Your loyal companion will always be at your side.

There will be days in college where you feel like no one is on your side. There will be days where you just want a hug from your mom. There will be days where you just want to be alone. But your dog will always be by your side and will always listen to what you have to say, even if they can't talk back. They'll be your best hug, and favorite kiss on the cheek. They're the most loyal animals there are, and having one by your side during the best years of your life just adds to the greatness we call college.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
