Ice Skating and Theatre 101 aren't going to be enough to tide me over this final year.
In my search for the easiest course over the past 2 years I'd argue that the easiest (103% in MUSE 200 for anyone in need of GPA boost) can definitely be the most boring. I wish we could take courses like..
1. Political Science 276 – Bar Politics
Explore the history and science of bars. PS 277 begins with the origins of the first bar, and progresses into UIUC bar histories. Subtopics include: why every bar will have a sleazy manager, sanitation violations (past and present) and local myths and folklore (yes, we answer the age old question "have Kam's bathrooms ever been cleaned?" )
2. Music 401 – Spotify Playlists: Social Prevalence and Stigma's
This 8 week course focuses on the social stigmas surrounding a poorly planned Spotify playlist. Course work is split between groups (you and the hot guy/girl you've seen the past 3 years but haven't talked to due to sexual anxiety) including a final project to create 5 separate playlists graded on originality, transitions and mood.
3. English 101.5 – Resume’s and Cover letters
Still, none of you know how to make a good one, so this course is required.
4. Business 204 – Office Romances.
This informative 8 week session prepares you to not get fired from your first corporate job (i.e don’t make a huge HR mistake and do something regrettable with your manager). Learn to tame your inner flirt in the office place.
5. Finance 503 – Being Poor
Finance 503 prepares graduating seniors to actually be poor and not college poor. Course objectives include: creating an actual savings account you don’t dip into when you want to go to Joe’s 3 times this week, returning your impulse Tobi purchase, how to survive on 30k a year in a city that realistically demands 50k and mastering 50 semi-decent ramen recipes.
6. Chemistry 301 – Wine Tasting
Hands on course exploring the genetic makeups of different wines. Full year course taught Tuesdays from 9-12pm. Location: Cly’s upstairs bar. Course Fee: your dignity.
7. Russian 417 – Vodka Distillation.
Must be taken in conjunction with Finance 503. Course explores identification of different levels of distillation. Class project is to create a tolerable cheap vodka you can make at home (since you won’t be going out when your poor!)
8. Communication 192 – Smooth Talking
Important if you’re graduating with an MRS degree with no MR, or plan on doing some serious corporate climbing. Highlights of the course include shmoozing, kitchen chit chit and not embarrassing yourself with your youth.
9. Spanish 384 – Travel Spanish (Winter Break 2014-2015)
This course is designed to really nail that last spring break in Cancun. Includes class trip to the agave growing regions of Mexico for socioeconomic research of the native peoples. (SUBTEXT: STUDY ABROAD IN MEXICO SENIORA'S)
10. Art 419 - Pinterest 101:Craft or be Cut
Taught by the ingenious Lauren Conrad, female students can rejoice and fangirl as they learn about the politics and engineering that went into creating this booming startup (as well as how to deal with the occasional glitter fiasco).
11. Kinesiology 513 – Advanced Napping
Prerequisite courses: Either Kin 402 (Mastering the powernap) or Kin 403 (Napping during lecture) and Kin 105 (Intro napping habits of a good college student). Advanced napping explores advanced subgenera's such as making yourself wake up from a nap and napping during religious functions.
12. Photography 108 – Intermediate Instagramming
Interactive course taught by instagram user @allisimpson(a 15 year old with about 5,000 more followers than you). Focus of this course includes picking the right filter for your chipotle burrito, left vs right head tilt and the appropriate use of hashtags (both sentimental and snarky).
