All holidays have different foods that are special to them. But it seems as if there are no special days for the foods that really mean something to us. Well hold on to your forks because you are in for a treat! I did a little research and found food holidays for each month. Some are sweet and some are not, but either way they are all delicious.
1) January 4-Spaghetti Day
Everyone loves pasta. It is the best kind of carb there is and you can put anything on it. So, why not dedicate a day to one of our childhood favorites: spaghetti. This day is probably not a good day to go on a date at an Italian restaurant. Maybe spaghetti isn't your thing, but who cares? You can still eat all of the pasta you want.
2) February 9-Pizza Day
Pizza is a staple of every college kid's diet. You can have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner.....or all three. There are breakfast pizzas, regular pizzas, and, wait for it, dessert pizzas. Why decide between chocolate and pizza when you can have both?! No matter what your favorite type is, you can't go wrong. Thank you Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Papa John's for helping us through breakups, Super Bowl parties, finals and just life in general.
3) March 25-Waffle Day
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The most important breakfast food, other than bacon, is the waffle. Whether it be homemade or L'eggo, they are all yummy. Mornings are not complete without waffles. However, waffles are not just a breakfast food. They have recently become a popular paired with chicken. So on this day, get adventurous with your waffles.
4) April 26-Pretzel Day
Whether you are getting a gift for someone for Valentine's Day or at a baseball game in the summer, pretzels are the perfect salty snack. There are different ways to make your pretzels. For baseball games, have a salt pretzel with lots of salt and cheese. It may not be Valentine's Day, make some chocolate covered ones and watch some sappy love movies.
5) May 15-Chocolate Chip Day
Chocolate chips are so simple yet so complex. They are tiny little morsels that help make something amazing. Chocolate chips are in all of the best desserts. You can use them as an ingredient or a decoration. They are like a super chocolate. Chocolate chips are magical and they deserve all of our love. It's chocolate in it's best form.
6) June 16-Fudge Day
Fudge. Another great type of chocolate. There are so many different types of fudge that it is hard to pick a favorite. Caramel. Peanut Butter. Cookies n' Cream. White Chocolate. You can't go wrong. Fudge is a snack that you take in doses. It is something that you crave and then eat a whole bunch of it. Fudge Day is a day that is definitely for those with a big sweet tooth.
7) July 6-Fried Chicken Day
Fried chicken is the original fried food. It is a bonding food. It brings people closer. Fried chicken is great with green beans and mashed potatoes. It's nice because you can have white meat or dark meat. You have options. So get your family together, look up a recipe, make some chicken, and have a nice family meal.
8) August 19-Potato Day
I ain't got no type. Potatoes go with everything. You can do anything to them. They make the perfect side item. They can be dressed up or dressed down. A handful of potato chips can make a perfect after school snack. Regular fries or sweet potato fries are great for game days. If you're feeling a little fancy, have a baked or mashed potato. For dessert, have a sweet potato casserole. There are so many opportunities for you to take advantage of on this wonderful day.
9) September 12-Chocolate Milkshake Day
Now I am personally a vanilla milkshake fan, but I still support this sweet holiday. We need to thank milkshakes for always being our source of comfort when we get sore throats. We need to thank them for keeping us cool on hot summer days. Milkshakes are ice cream's cooler cousin with whipped cream on top. All milkshakes are good milkshakes.
10) October 1-Homemade Cookies Day
Oreo's and Girl Scout cookies are good, but nothing is better than some homemade cookies. Homemade cookies are perfect for every occasion. So why shouldn't we celebrate them? No matter what age, everyone loves a good cookie. I personally like chocolate chip cookies, just because you can never go wrong with them. Well, you can never go wrong with any homemade cookie.
11) November 8-Cappuccino Day
Okay. You're going to have to get your Starbucks on for this one. At this time of year, it is are starting to get cold. A cappuccino is a great, warm way to start off your morning. I feel like this is more than just a day to pay homage to cappuccinos, it is a day to drown yourself in coffee. This is going to be every basic white girls favorite holiday.
12) December 1-Pie Day
The first sentence I ever wrote was "I like pie" and that is very true. All major holidays include some sort of pie. It's a classic dessert. It is a dessert that makes you travel back in time. Pie is a comfort food. It is just so warm and can be served with ice cream. It is an all round amazing desert. You can put anything in a pie. If you don't like pie, then you need to reevaluate your life choices. My love for pie is 3.14.
So there we have it. Twelve holidays that give special foods the credit they deserve. Some are kind of healthy and others not so much, but either way we love them all. And that is how the cookie crumbles.
