11 Of The Weirdest Things On The Internet
Reddit: "Smart Things Blog"

As most of you know, the internet is full of some really bizarre stuff. There are pictures of cats with their face stuck in bread, some strange Tumblr posts, Slenderman, a woman with a wookie mask laughing at herself and the moderately offensive flying spaghetti monster. You may think you've seen it all. I'm here to tell you something: you haven't. Not even close.

Today, I'm going to take you on a tour of some of the weirdest parts of the internet...

(Click on any of the hyperlinked blue text to view.)

1) Don't Hug Me I'm Scared

This video begins as what seems to be a fun children's song with goofy characters. Oh, how wrong you are to assume that. It starts to get creepy at about 1:30, and just gets more scarring as it progresses. There's just something blatantly eerie about these videos. What do I mean "these?" There are actually 6 "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared" videos currently on the internet.

2) Tight Pants/Body Rolls

This is easily the most obnoxious, most catchy video I have ever seen. I first saw it in an art club meeting when we were just hanging out watching strange videos. Leave it to art kids to find stuff like this.

3) Shoes (Caution: Profanity)

This video is actually 10 years old. I remember watching it when I was younger, as I'm sure some of you do as well. I feel like you have to be the right kind of sleepy to find this funny (as in, that special moment of sleep deprivation where everything on the internet suddenly becomes the funniest thing you've ever seen).

4) Salad Fingers (Warning: this video is hardcore creepy)

This series truly exemplifies the strangest of the strange on the internet. Some of my closest friends showed me this particular episode this past year, and I was thoroughly disturbed after even just the intro music. I can't even put into words how creepy this video is. Enjoy.

5) Little Baby's Ice Cream

This is an actual ice cream company's actual advertisement. I'm not making this up. If you ask me, this video is both effective and ineffective in the sense that it's super gross looking (and therefore does not seem appealing), but it's insanely memorable because the image is forever burned into your mind. I eat Little Babies...ice cream.

6) OMG Laser Guns

The internet not only has bizarre videos, but also bizarre websites. Check out this random one of a squirrel with a laser gun. Pew pew pew.

7) Texter

There just something oddly amusing about this website. It has words from "Alice in Wonderland" that you can essentially just doodle with if you're feeling creative. This one isn't the craziest thing on the internet, but I found it rather quirky and figured I'd share.

8) I Love You Like a Fat Lady Loves Apples

This is a simple game/website with a large, older looking woman sitting at a table eating apples. There's creepy music in the background, and if your apple is out of reach, a leg with fishnet stockings kicks it back out so you can reach it. Keep eating apples and the woman will grow larger. Eventually, something else happens to her, but I won't spoil the surprise. You won't expect it.

9) Eel Slap

This is an interactive website where you slap a man with an eel. That isn't some gross euphemism or anything. It's completely literal. If you'd like, however, you can gently caress his face with the eel. It's up to you.

10) Prime Number ******** Bear (Caution: Profanity)

If only I knew about this back in the day when I was learning prime numbers. The internet: making learning fun. For full effect, turn up your volume.

11) Staggering Beauty (Caution: flashing lights)

I love this website. I don't know why. I just do. Move your cursor over the little worm guy to make him move. Then try wiggling the cursor super fast-- you won't regret it.

I've only just scraped the surface of the "hidden gems" of the internet, but I hope this has been an interesting learning experience for you.

Human creativity never fails to surprise me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
